Description: The Grasshopper Lounge opened it's doors in 1971 by owners Jesse and Cleo Rosales in Downtown Adrian, Michigan. There my family acquired the other half of the structure and "El Chapulin the Tex Mex Restaurant" was launched. Still in business and operated by our entire family, we have since opened a second location in Wauseon, Ohio and our third in Sarasota, Florida. Grandma's secret: prepare everything in small batches, so we never jeopardize the art form of our food.

“Mexican food the TexMex way”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

Clean & comfortable with pleasant accommodating servers and a host that is friendly and ready to talk with you especially about the food and the way it is prepared. It is not the hot spicy etc. Mexican food that you get in most Mexican restaurants. They will satisfy almost every request. Since we found it and we are not real Mexican food aficionados but we know what we like and this apparently is what we like as they are not open that long and we have already been there 4 times + have had a men's club luncheon where we had 43 in attendance and all but 2 were more than satisfied and vowed to return. Every dish was more than adequate and most took home the desert for their wives and my wife said that was the best cannoli cheese cake she ever tasted. If you like Mexican food you are not doing yourself a favor by not trying it. Oh yes! The prices were very low considering the size of the servings and from what the others said the beer was outstanding and inexpensive.

“ALMOST Perfect”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013

We love GOOD Mexican food and don't have much choice near us. Therefore, we were so excited when we saw a new restaurant in "south Sarasota". Upon our arrival, the server asked for our drink orders and apologized that their soda machine was currently being serviced but offered to bring us water in the meantime... which she did and ultimately brought our beverages. During this time, the owner stopped at our table. We had no impression that this had anything to do with the beverage problem - he was just being a great business owner! He asked us if it was our first visit. When we said yes, he smiled and said he wanted to bring us something and quickly returned with a side order of there yummy "green cheese sauce" and absolutely delicious guacamole. What a GREAT first impression. Our main course (a combo plate for my husband and chimichanga for me) were delivered (by the owner) quickly and were both excellent. We especially liked the unique rice - very tasty. But here is where everything changes. No one checked in on us or refilled our drinks and the hostess eventually had to take our check payment for us. The sad thing... I saw our server almost running from table to table - trying so hard to get everything done. Obviously this is yet another example of what I am seeing more and more - owners who are trying to keep their costs down by not having enough personnel. Too bad for the customers and also for the employees who are trying to do a good job. Bottom line regarding The Grasshopper... I would definitely recommend a visit as there was SO much that was absolutely great.

“Best Tex Mex we have ever had!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2013

We visited the Grasshopper for the first time, for lunch, Monday. We had heard the food is wonderful, and it was outstanding in every way. The hostess and waitperson were extremely friendly, and the owner came out to offer ordering suggestions. When he heard I like my food very hot, he had the cook make up a special salsa for me. It was thick and extremely flavorful, with three kinds of very fresh peppers. I had the three enchiladas: beef, chicken and pork, in three different and wonderful sauces, with rice and the best refried beans I have ever had. My husband even liked them, and he usually doesn't care for them. He had a huge portion of steak fajitas, packed with perfectly seasoned and lightly charred steak and not at all greasy. The owner brought us some homemade guacamole and three kinds of hot sauces. We each had two drinks, and out bill was about 40.00, which is really low, given the amount of fresh high quality food. We can't wait to go back here. Everything about the experience was outstanding.

“Fresh Guacamole!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

We stopped by a few weeks ago and have been back at least once a week since! Very fresh ingredients. The guacamole was delicious, the green cheese sauce a must try! We've tried many things on the menu by now and have not found anything we didn't like. My favorite is three enchiladas (beef, pork, chicken) with three different sauces. Can't wait to go next week and try something new.
