Description: Downtown Sarasota’s cosmopolitan culinary experience in the modernistic, award winning Palm Avenue Garage complex, pays homage to the Seidensticker family’s father and his provocative era, when well mixed cocktails, sophisticated food and good company were status quo. As Libby’s Café + Bar pays tribute to the family matriarch and her come as you are nature, Louies Modern honors the father, Louie, who was passionate about good food and drink and a self- taught culinary master.

We were recommended to eat in this restaurant by American friends who live in Siesta Key. It is owned by the same family who run Libbys Cafe in Sarasota, The food is modern European/American in style. Enjoyed the heirloom tomatoes served a slab of Himalayan sea salt with burrata. My husband loved the creamed Kale and steak! Very nice service and fun to watch the chefs working so hard in the kitchen.
Free Parking next door! Good wine list too.

Booking recommended especially on the weekends!

On a recent trip to Sarasota we dined at Louies Modern on two occasions, this is a modern nicely appointed restaurant in downtown Sarasota. On the first occasion we
Were served by Samuel or Sam who seemed to be serving a great number of covers but managed to keep all his balls in the air and his customers happy.

Try the smoked salmon samosa, which was not what we expected but was delicious. Salt and pepper squid was well cooked. A nice dish of Florida grouper was tasty but just a little overcooked for my liking.

Having enjoyed the first evening so much we returned for a second time, which was equally enjoyable. We were ticked off by Sam (Samuel) for not requesting him as our server, but to tell you the truth it was so busy that we were lucky to get a table at all.

On this occasion I had the chicken liver pate which l have to say was no more than a mouthful and though absolutely delicious it was just too small and l don’t have a large appetite but was really left just wanting a little more. The short rib soup was OK without being special. However the orange infused butternut squash served with the oven roasted duck was amazing.

The bill came to less than expected which was a nice surprise for such an elegant dining experience.

Ate outside on a chilly Christmas Eve since there were no seats available inside. The heaters helped a bit but were not enough to attract any other outdoor diners so we had the full attention and entertainment of our server Sam. The smoked salmon somosas were good not great and the short rib lentil soup was ok. The short rib burger was cooked perfectly medium rare and was quite good as we're the fries. The short rib entree was good but we've had better elsewhere. Sam did his best to be helpful without being intrusive since we really were his only table. Since there were many interesting items on the menu it would be worth a return visit indoors!

Was so impressed with Louies that I have to write this review immediately! We had the Christmas Eve special of roasted duckling which was as good a duck as we'd ever had. Maple flavored with brussels sprouts and butternut squash made it a wonderful and special dish, appropriate for the special evening. William's service and description of the various offerings was most helpful. The chocolate cake he recommended for dessert made a perfect ending to an excellent meal. We can't wait to make a return visit!
