Old Salty Dog has three locations in the Sarasota/Venice area. Their popularity is derived from that fact that they offer what every beach-goer craves--tasty food and lots of it, especially hot dogs and fresh seafood, good drinks, from lemonade to beer to cocktails, and warm southern hospitality. The City Island location at 1601 Ken Thompson Parkway on Longboat Key, across Sarasota Bay from Sarasota, Florida, offers waterfront dining and stunning views for guests who arrive by boat or car, often from the nearby Mote Aquarium. The main attraction, of course, is the famous Salty Dog, a 1/4-pound hot dog dipped in the restaurant's signature batter and fried golden brown. Or try the loaded Salty Dog with sauerkraut, bacon, grilled onion, mushrooms, American cheese, cheddar, pepper jack and Swiss cheese. But the menu offers much more than that. How about English fish and chips, a basket of butterfly shrimp or chicken tenders, a lobster roll, an eight-ounce center cut steak, an eight-ounce Angus burger, baby back ribs, peel 'n eat shrimp or oysters on the half-shell? Don't forget the Maui Wow-Wee burger with pineapple, melted Swiss cheese and bacon or the West of the Trail burger with BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, bacon and onion vinaigrette. Wash it all down with root beer, Coke, lemonade or ginger ale.
