We tried this Italian restaurant quite by accident. It was a tiny restaurant near downtown Sarasota with all the charm you would hope for in a family run restaurant. Mama cooks in the kitchen, papa tends the bar and their two teenage sons are the waiters. The sons are the only ones in the family who speak English. Many veal dishes to choose from. I had the chicken picatta which was quite tasty. The one faux paux was when I ordered a bottle of their 2009 Valpolicella Ripassa, the waiter brought it to the table already opened. The young waiter told me his papa just opened it up at the bar. Other than that it was a very pleasant dining experience made even more so with our friends and Longboat Key neighbors Caryl and Bernie from Chicago.

After the great reviews, we wanted some REALLY good Italian food...well, we will be looking elsewhere. The family are very nice and the setting is cute. Small, well decorated, cozy. Unfortunately, the food does not deliver. Casear salad had very little dressing and strong anchovy flavor along with crutons that seem to have come out of a bag from Publix. Wine selection was good and fairly priced, but list did not include vintages or producers, only listed by type, like Chianti Classico Reserva and a price. We only had pasta dishes which were average and over priced...$16.95 for a piece of OK lasagna? We won't be back....

If you are looking for real Italian cooking in the Sarasota area, this is the place to go. Two years ago, when it changed hands, we decided there was little chance that it could remain at the same high level as before - we were wrong - it is even better! The location is certainly off-putting and the choice of wines a little limited, but the service is very friendly - but not pushy - and very enthusiastic. The Bruschetta is the best I have ever had, and all four of us throughly enjoyed our entrees. This is not American-Italian food but the genuine article. Why else would you find so many Italians gathering there to eat? Also the final free glass of limoncello is very good - certainly not too sweet as is often the case - but could you put it in frosted glasses please?

Had been here ince many years ago. (And longevity is a good thing). Perhaps the same holds true: Not all that impressed with the food or the lemoncelo. The caesar salad had absolutely no flavor and not a shred of parm. Am I spoiled by an American version of this salad? Perhaps...but!?!
And the porcine ravioli was not as "delicate" as i anticipated and was covered with sauce. Again, am I spoiled by good food elsewhere?
The atmosphere and service are realllu quite nice however. So bummer about the food

Bellagio is a delightful small Italian restaurant, beautifully lighted with members of a family who are cordial and dedicated to a polite and a delicious experience. Father tends the bar, mother is in the kitchen and the two sons serve the diners with a smile and a courteous manner. The menu is varied, the wine list is growing and the food is pleasing and ample. We feel good coming and going!
