“Food and service were outstanding”
Reviewed December 11, 2008

During our stay at the Lido Beach Resort we went to this restaurant located on the 8th floor. The restaurant is no longer called Christophers, but the Lido Beach Grille. On Friday night we had reservations for 7 p.m. and were immediately seated at a wonderful table overlooking the Sarasota skyline at the window. We were told our server was brand-new and was in training. Andy, you did an outstanding job considering this was only your second night on the job! We had a lovely bottle of Reisling that was about $30. For appetizers, I chose the rock shrimp served with two separate sauces for dipping that was served in this cool basket. My friend ordered the french onion soup which was also great. I ordered a caesar salad and when the waiter asked if he should split the salad for the both of us we said sure and were only charged $7 for two fresh, green caesar salads loaded with crunchy croutons. Main entrees were macadamia nut encrusted grouper and a thick, juicy sirloin steak both of which were cooked to perfection. No room for dessert for us. Entrees were about $25-30 each and were well worth it. The restaurant has a great fishtank and a bar overlooking the ocean. That same weekend we went to the Sunday brunch and this is definitely worth a try. Everything from eggs benedict, shrimp, prime rib, omlette station etc. Complimentary mimosa is included. Desserts were located in the bar area with live music playing all throughout the brunch. We will definitely return to this restaurant if ever in the Sarasota area.

“excellent upscale dining with the kids”
Reviewed May 13, 2007

ok, so i thought this place was going to be kind of cheesy (usually restaurants located inside hotels are...)

boy, was i surprised! walking through the hotel, we had to pass though a courtyard area decorated with a fish pond and gazebo-bridge. once we got on the elevator and stepped out, we saw the beautiful view of lido beach and surroundings. so far, this place was impressing me.

this restaurant is very kid-friendly despite its chic-ness. the waiter was very friendly and conscientious, making sure that our daughter had her food come out first - and what a surprise that was - our 17 month old daughter got an appetizer before her entree! it was just applesauce with carrots and lettuce, but it was presented very nice. oh, and i cannot forget the bread that was put out for us - 2 kinds of bread (i liked the kind made with pineapple) our daughter liked dipping the bread into her applesauce!

our appetizers & salads were great also. my wife and i both had the maui onion soup. very good, but i thought it needed a little salt. next came the salads - the wife got a ceasar while i got the tomato and mozzarella salad. mine was very good, but hers was great! it had a very light ceasar dressing and the croutons were not too heavy either. the best thing about the caesar salad was the baked parmesan cheese ring around her salad. again, the presentation here was excellent.

(i forgot to mention that by the time the apps and salad had come out, our daughter was munching away on her 3 layer grilled cheese and fries from the kids' menu)

my wife got a dish called "beef two ways" which was filet mignon and a short rib with 2 different styles of cooking. im not so into beef, so i wasnt really into it, although i tried a small bite of the filet mignon, and it was "like butta". i had the caribbean curry seafood stew (or something like that), and despite its name it did not have an overwhelming curry flavor. it was basically shrimp, scallops, a filet, mussels, clams and a lobster tail decorated with coconut strips in some sort of soup. this dish looked like it belonged in an art gallery (excellent presentation is a running theme here)

i should note that our waiter was very attentive and asked if we would like another drink when the glass was near-empty and water was filled if the glass was half-full.

by the time we had finished our meals, we were kind of full - but some of the desserts being brought out were awesome (again, beautiful presentation here!) unfortunately, by this time, the baby was getting restless and we needed to get her in bed before too long. hopefully, we will be able to get back there soon to try those yummy-looking desserts (but next time, it will be just the 2 of us!)

overall, this was a great dining experience and i would definitely do it again. i did forget to mention that this was on mother's day and that it was much better than going to a chain-restaurant because it was not as crowded as some of the other upscale chain-restaurants were. (we called around and could not get a seating before 8:00pm at other places, while christopher's gave us our first-choice seating time.)

on the way out, i took our daughter to the salt-water fish tanks to look at the colorful fish. she loved them! (now she keeps saying "fish! fish!")

definitely worth checking out if you are looking for fine dining in sarasota.

“Excelllent food, service and views!”
Reviewed July 24, 2006

I stayed at the Lido Beach resort over the weekend and had dinner at Christopher's on the 8th floor one night. It was the best meal I had in Sarasota on this trip (we ate at Marina Jacks, terrible; Chart House, very good; and Crab and Fin, ok). We had apps and drinks in the bar while we watched the sunset and then moved to a table with wonderful views of the Sarasota sky line for our dinner. The prices are a little on the high side (the filet was about $29 and the rack of lamb was about $25) but reasonable considering the setting, service and food.We found the staff to be very knowledgeable, attentive and courteous. The food very very good. The wine was delicous. The restaurant itself is very cool with nice big rounded booths a large salt water fish tank and amazing views.

i recently went to dinner at Christophers located on the 8th floor of the Lido Beach Resort. When I first entered the restaurant I was imediatly blown away by the giant salt water fish tank located in the entrance, filled with colorful tropical fish and coral. I was sat at my table right away by a very polite hostess I was amazed by the view of the sarasota skyline. My server was very profesional, and the food was out of this world. After dinner I went for a drink in Christophers lounge where the service and view was also great. A++++++++++++++
