Description: Family-owned and operated for over 112 years, Columbia has earned acclaim for its old-world charm and award-winning Spanish/Cuban cuisine and wine list. Casual attire is fine, but we don't allow sleeveless shirts on men. Join us for century-old family recipes like Paella "a la Valenciana," Filet Mignon "Columbia," and fresh seafood specialties. Don't miss Columbia's Original "1905" Salad(R), prepared tableside with our delicious, freshly-made dressing, a 100-year-old family recipe of fresh garlic, oregano, wine vinegar and Spanish extra virgin olive oil. Be sure to sample a fine Spanish wine like Torres, Montecillo or Campillo. Relax outdoors on our patio, or inside our Mediterranean-style dining rooms filled with hand-painted tiles and family heirlooms. We are a sister to the Columbia in Tampa's Ybor City, founded in 1905. Children's menu available. Open 365-days a year, including all holidays.

Stumbled upon this place while shopping in the square in Sarasota and had a delightful lunch of tapas. This 5th-generation Spanish restaurant was packed at lunch (on a Thursday) but the food did not disappoint. We had a combination of 3 tapas (scallop, queso fundido and empanadas). The scallops were OK, the queso fundido was authentic and tasty, and the empanadas were yummy. The mojitos were perfect. Packed with tourist but great quality food and fast service.

The pick 3 Tapas for $29.95 was perfect to share. We shared the scallops casimiro, with a wonderful lemon, white wine & breadcrumb sauce, the chicken and the Cakes De Crangrejo two large crab cakes are loaded with fresh handpicked blue crab meat and grilled, we had the passion fruit alioli sauce on the side.

Everyone received their own large piece of fresh hot bread. We also ordered the salad to share, it was made fresh at our table and plenty to share between the three of us.

The Columbia used to be a favorite restaurant for us 10-12 years ago when we were tourists. It's huge and a fun place to dine. The food is above average, particularly their special salad. We go there with 6-10 family members and have a ball. It's great for tourists who are visiting St Armands Circle and are looking for a vast selection of menu items, good food and an exciting atmosphere. As time went on and we spent half the year living here we stopped going to Columbia. There are many, many better choices that are much easier to get into(you may wait even with a reservation) and in many cases more reasonably priced. While i wouldn't recommend, Columbia is popular and will provide you with a good meal and a memorable visit.

Just go! You won't be disappointed with anything you order or with the service. Try a pitcher of Sangria or Mojito's as the beverage of choice.
