Still under the same ownership, Mediterraneo has consistently been rated one of the top restaurants in Zagat. The restaurant has received numerous accolades including the acclaimed Insegna Del Ristorante Italiano awarded by The Minister of Agriculture & Commerce in Rome. With its highest honor, inducting the restaurant into its Accademia Italiana della Cucina "Fine Dining Hall of Fame." Mediterraneo has been rated as Best of the Best in Sarasota Magazine since the first year of opening. So whether you're celebrating a special occasion or grabbing a quick bite to eat, at Mediterraneo you are always assured the best quality food accompanied by excellent service. “Best Italian in SRQ... authentic!”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

Great dishes...carpaccio with arugula and parmigiano, ravioli with pesto, shrimp spiedini, lamp chops. Oh, and the pizza... Bruno, who is from the island of Sardinia, takes his art/craft of making thin-crust pizza ever so seriously. His could very well be the best pizza I've had outside of Italy. All in all, it is always delicious a meal with excellent service and a great atmosphere. It's no wonder the staff are always happy and pleasant, the owners can often be seen working right along side them, and will not hesitate to engage you in conversation about your food/meal experience. Or, as they most always remember you, about how your life is going (with sincerity).
Be sure to get a reservation...not surprisingly, the place is most always very busy.

“Great find!”
Reviewed July 30, 2013 via mobile

Staying on Longboat Key, we came here for dinner based on the good Trip Advisor ratings. The food was excellent - probably the best Italian food that we have had in the US. My son is still waxing lyrical about the wonderful seafood linguine! We don't usually have a dessert but did so when we found out that these were made on the premises. Both the tiramisu and the creme brûlée were excellent.

The service was also excellent. The atmosphere was nice (we love to see crisply laundered white tablecloths on the tables!).

Slightly expensive, but we will definitely return on our next visit to the area.

“Outstanding homemade pasta”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

This is yet another restaurant in an area of Main St that we have not usually looked for dining options, but we are so glad we did! We usually start our Italian dinners with a caprese salad, so this time we changed our minds and ordered the mozzarella stuffed roasted red peppers. My boyfriend liked them, but it was not for me. Neither of us thought it would be served warm, which was not a problem at all, just not what we expected. I felt that the mozzarella inside was too rubbery in texture so that turned me off. I am also not a fan of overly salty food, and the bruschetta they served I found too salty. However my boyfriend salts everything so he enjoyed it. Instead of serving bread with dipping oil, it was served with a sort of pesto that was delicious. Great change of pace from the usual. I was nervous at this point, since we weren't thrilled about the app and the bruschetta was a tad salty. BUT, our dinners were fantastic, and totally made up for it. We both ordered a special- scallop fettucine and spinach filled ravoili. My boyfriend loved the scallop dish and especially the sauce with it. The ravioli were so delicate and had great flavor, combined with the freshness of the tomato-basil sauce. I loved it so much my plate was CLEAN and when the server came by I asked for more. I was only partly kidding. We did not have room for dessert but they served two small biscotti with the check, which were also delicious and completely sealed the deal. Was a bit more pricey than we usually prefer but when the pasta is homemade, we are in!!
