Still under the same ownership, Mediterraneo has consistently been rated one of the top restaurants in Zagat. The restaurant has received numerous accolades including the acclaimed Insegna Del Ristorante Italiano awarded by The Minister of Agriculture & Commerce in Rome. With its highest honor, inducting the restaurant into its Accademia Italiana della Cucina "Fine Dining Hall of Fame." Mediterraneo has been rated as Best of the Best in Sarasota Magazine since the first year of opening. So whether you're celebrating a special occasion or grabbing a quick bite to eat, at Mediterraneo you are always assured the best quality food accompanied by excellent service. All of it thoroughly Italian.

This was our second visit to this restaurant. We were there with two other couples, had made a reservation and were seated immediately in spite of the fact that the restaurant appeared to be filled to capacity. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic dinner for two this is not the place unless you get there very early or very late. We arrived at 7 p.m. and the restaurant was bustling with activity and conversation. The food is authentic and well prepared. In addition to an extensive menu there are always three specials: a pasta, a fish and a meat. The pasta menu offers items not found in other restaurants. Linguine with eggplant, tomato and fresh ricotta and the linguine tutti mare are especially good. The fish special which was grilled Florida grouper with bokchoy and a special sauce was excellent. The service was very good and we were not rushed.

My sister and I went to Mediterraneo, for a nice dinner. The restaurant is always bustling, but they do take reservations.. We both ordered a McManis Cabernet from their extensive wine list. When the glasses arrived, and we tasted it, we both agreed we were NOT drinking a California Cabernet. We were definitely drinking an Italian wine, probably their less expensive Chianti. We brought it to the attention of the waiter, who merely smirked. After he took our food order, he removed the two glasses of wine. When he returned, he brought two clean glasses and an unopened bottle of McManis Cabernet for us to see before pouring. . Obviously different from what we were originally served. Mistake? Trying to pass off a less expensive wine? We don't know.
What we can say definitively is that the meal was delicious.
Dinner of lamb Osso Bucco over Risotto, and whole Bronzino were excellent.
We will give them the benefit of the doubt, and try again.

Very friendly and cozy environment with qualified personnel ready to spoilt every need. Typical italian cuisine will allow you to flashback memories of the 'Bel Paese'. Italian is widely spoken in the restaurant giving you the chance to learn some italian gesture and way of say.

Mediterraneo is must either during vacation or business meetings.
A restaurant were you will find quality, dedication and entertainment.

An awesome italian restaurant that did just about everything RIGHT.

Reservations: Made a few hours before dinner and when we arrived to a crowded restaurant we were sat immediately.

Service: One main waiter was perfect as were his team of helpers who made sure we had filled water and bread baskets

Food: 5 of us dined and all 5 of us were happy with the tasty and good looking dishes. The pasta was fresh and the flavors were outstanding

Overall: Loved it.

So said our daughter-in-law, an executive chef visiting from the north. No checkered tableloths, dripping wax candles or red velvet chairs. Just wonderful fresh food prepared simply and authentically with impecable service.

We began with complimentary rounds of bruscetta topped with fresh diced tomatoes and herbs. Then came homemade bread with an aromatic dip of oil and herbs. Among we four we enjoyed hearty spinach salads, salmon grilled to perfection, and a chicken parmesana prepared as it should be -- no overly breaded nonsense, lightly seasoned and tender.

My husband and I ordered the pasta with lamb ragout, a great beehive of homemade al dente pasta generously infused with tender, tasty lamb. We had room left only for coffee, so well fed and content were we. In fact this is a place where, over the years, we have never made it to dessert.

Mediterraneo has been around for awhile, never disappoints, and will continue to be a staple of Sarasotans who know their stuff. p.s. They serve a thin crust pizza -- excellent as an appetizer --that is to die for.
