Excellent food, great service, warm setting with evening music coming from the bar. Whether out with spouse or significant other the warm, dimly lite, French Restaurant on Sarasota's St. Armands Circle is a wonderful place to dine. If you prefer to be a people watcher when you dine there is dining outside in the front of the bar for those that like to be close to the scene. Does not disappoint.

We had lunch at the bar with knowledgeable Antatoily (sp?). He's fun & has been there for years so can answer all questions. A major stand out was the French onion soup served in an actual onion. Very rich deep flavor & not salty. They also have a lovely selection of wine with all of the key European stars represented.

We booked a table on a Tuesday night. We arrived a little early and as we arrived a very tall man who obviously knew everyone walked past us to go to the bar. All the attention of the staff was on this particular person who was a 'larger than life' character. We were seated promptly and then sat for 9 minutes with no waiter, no drink, no menu, nothing. We got up, left and there was no one around. The bartender did say 'have a nice evening' as we departed. As we headed to Tommy Bahamas our mobile rang. It was the manager asking what had happened. My husband explained what had happened and the manager begged us to come back that he was very sorry, etc. So we decided to go back. They offered us a complementary bottle of wine which was appreciated but the one that we wanted they 'had just run out because of a large party in the back' (may explain where all the staff were). We then split a house salad and each had a main course. The food was very good. But at $30 a main course we thought it was poor value for money. We were offered a free dessert but we don't do dessert but this was also appreciated. Unfortunately because of our experience we then got the overwhelming sycophantic service plan with the manager coming to the table and saying 'How delicious is your meal?' (unbelievable!)

So would we go back? No. Even for free.

At St Armands Circle we continue to think that Tommy Bahamas is the best place for dinner.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at Café L’Europe. We are sorry to hear we did not meet your expectations, in spite of our staff’s numerous attempts to compensate for the wait time when you arrived, but we do hope that you will give us another opportunity to provide you with the level of service and quality that has made us one of Sarasota’s favorite restaurants for over 40 years.

Sincerely,

Betsie Coolidge and the Café L’Europe Staff
