This mainstay near the Sarasota airport is a great stop either upon arrival or before departure. The atmosphere is basic 60s diner decor as is the service. But the price on the stone crabs was the best we found anywhere in the area and they were delicious. They have recently changed their crab cake recipe and we found it to be flavorful and filled with delicious fresh crabmeat and not a lot of filler.
Skip the salad bar; it's mostly mayonnaise based salads.
Stop by the market on your way out to get some fresh fish and seafood to take home.

We made sure to order Florida fish (snapper and Gulf shrimp) and they tasted fresh. The food was very good, prices ok.

This is a fabulous place to dine. It is located in a small strip mall near the Sarasota airport, and we have passed this restaurant numerous times without stopping, because its outside appearance is lowkey. The decor is splendid. The service was excellent. All 3 of us ordered various forms of grouper (I had it slightly blackened), and it was superb. They have a moderate size salad bar, which comes with dinner entrees, or for a small additional price if you order a sandwich. They served herring, and excellent cole slaw and potato salad in addition to the usual salad items. Overall a great meal, and not expensive. They also offer a 10% discount if you purchase frozen yogurt next door. We didn't try the froyo because we were full, but it is a nice way to obtain dessert. We will definitely return here on our next trip to Florida.

Stopped here after a concert with Itzhak Perlman directing youth at USF across the street. The mussel I noticed were ordered by other diners all around us, so I did the same. They were superb and plentiful. I also order fried oysters; they were okay. Too much batter and very small. But this was an appetizer order as were the mussels. No cocktails available, but decent wine at reasonable prices for Florida. My wife had fish and chips and said they wre good.

What I liked was that the food was excellent and that this does not appear to be in a chain..The evening we ate there was an excellent guitarist playing which really added to the ambiance.
