Awesome place not fancy but good food. Their salad bar could use a little spruce up but other than that it was awesome!

Great seafood, fresh and cooked to perfection! Unless that is, you like double thick, over battered, greeeezy seafood. The lightly dusted, fried oysters are awesome! The blackened anything is always a good choice. All of it comes with a great little salad bar... Great lunch spot for great food, but romantic it is not!

We went to Captain Brian's for dinner on the basis of several reviews and advertisements. It wasn't bad, but neither was it terribly good. The ambiance is 1950's Cape Cod; some people may like this, but the "Restaurant Impossible" would have a field day with it. The service was very efficient and friendly. The salad bar (included with dinner) was pretty sad--tiny, kind of bedraggled, although the tomatoes were very nice and fresh. As for the food: my blackened mixed grill was quite good, even if the three different fish (mahi, tuna, salmon) began to taste the same after a while. The portion of steak fries, while very good, was miserly. My wife's stuffed sole was, even allowing for the thinness of the fish, more stuck together stuffing than anything else. The place seems to be extremely popular with a certain, shall we say, geriatric crowd (I'm no spring chicken myself), with people waiting to be seated on a Wednesday evening. I wonder why. There are better places for seafood in Sarasota/Bradenton, starting with Crab and Fin on St. Armand's. No need to come to Captain Brian's again.

We do not usually go out for seafood; as my boat provides most of the Grouper, Snapper, Specks, Pompano, etc. that we eat. When we go out with a group and end up at Capt. Brian's I am never disappointed. There is no "portion controlled" frozen fish here, if it is not available fresh Brian does not have it! The simple preparations do not try an hide the quality of the fish. Many places use highly seasoned sauces to disguise fish that is a "little off". Not here, I had a lobster dinner last week and it was perfectly cooked, as usual, and a 2 lb Homarous Americanus, for $26.00 is a true value! The thing you can always count on at Capt Brian's is consistency, when it is packed with tourist Snow Birds, or in the more relaxed summer season.
