We stumbled across it walking through Sarasota and it was the best meal I've had in a long time. It's authentic Sicilian, the atmosphere is great, it's like being in Sicily. The waiters/owners speak with an Italian accent. Will be coming back!!

A menu of Sicilian street food specialties sets this new restaurant apart from the many other Italian places in town. A selection of fried or baked dough savories are appetizing, inexpensive takeouts. Another unique feature are the excellent coffees, wines and inventive fruit drinks, accompanied by small plates of complimentary morsels that brings a touch of Italian bar culture to Main Street Sarasota.

We happened upon this restaurant in Sarasota after trying to go to a movie at the Regal 20 (incredible traffic and a full parking structure). Since we couldn't get into the movie we wanted we wandered around looking for a place to eat. Supernova Cafe is directly across from the theater on Main St. and is absolutely excellent ...we thought we were back in Italy. We had the Vegatali Misti as an appetizer which was an interesting (and excellent) combination of grilled vegetables in a sauce on to die for bread with a mixed salad also included. Our spaghetti carbonara and spaghetti melazane (tomato and eggplant) were also excellent. There was also a complimentary piece of pizza when we arrive, mild garlic bread made with fresh baguette and, so our happy surprise, the best tiramisu we've had in a very long time. The decor here is minimal but the food is excellent.

We stumbled upon Supernova on the way to see a movie. We have been to Italy many times (wife is Italian) and it looks a lot like a typical Italian cafe/restaurant, this is a good thing. Simple decor and very clean.

Greeted by the owner and server was polite and enthusiastic. Italian music videos on TV's a nice touch.

Ceaser salad was good but not enough punch. Caprese salad, chicken Parmesan and pasta bolognese were all excellent. Simple food, the way Italian should be.

Only flaw was entree's came out before we were done our salads. Chalk that up to being new, not a biggie. Food arrival was quick.

Support the independents, they're working hard.
