“food is rather boring”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

I finally made it out to Inkanto, I say finally because we tried twice before and they always seemed to be too busy pushing us to 9 pm or telling us that 5 pm would be best. I thought, wow, this place must be amazing. What we found was overpriced street food and rather bland at that. We tried the appetizer papa a la huancaina which is typically rather tasty and spicy and instead we had something that tasted like egg with no garlic or hot pepper to be found. Our meals, aji de gallina and brochetas were along the same lines of bland. For dessert, we chose the typical alfajores, which came as one single, very dry cookie. No thanks! Sarasota has great Peruvian cuisine, and this was not one of the places that offer that.

“The 20% gratuity charged for table of 2 blocked out our memories of everything else...”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

Overall very disappointed. The reviews were good, and we got a deal through groupon which seemed like a fair price. Then we got there and everything changed. First we waited for about 5 minutes at the entrance to find a server or anyone who could seat us, even though we had a reservation (where were all the people that worked there?). Then it took forever to order our main course - even though there was only one other occupied table there, the server disappeared for awhile multiple times. Apparently there is only 1 person that works there, and I wonder if he might do the cooking too. Finally we got our food. The ceviche was great, but the rest of the $20 each entrees were not $20 quality. Food was kind of boring, and the cooked seafood somewhat rubbery. Then when we got our bill we were doubly shocked - the server had put a 20% automatic service charge on the bill - and we were only 2 people! I understand why restaurants do an 18% gratuity for large groups...but for two people and not great service?!! 20%?!! That was astounding. Then my leftovers were forgotten for 20 minutes, and we couldn't find the server at all for awhile to pay and get my food and leave! I probably won't go back just on principle. The Peruvian food at Selva and Darwin's is much better, and not much more $$$. Worth it I'd say.

“What's the big deal?”
Reviewed February 9, 2013 via mobile

It's came from dinner and having read the good reviews decided to try Inkanto. Sorry to say, we were very disappointed. We were seated in the back room which looked more like a store room with extra chairs and tables not set up. The service was good once they decided where to seat us. Wish I could say the same for the food. Have had much, much better food at other Peruvian restaurants in Sarasota. Don't know what all the hype is about.

“Very tasty, great service”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

We went to Inkanto Authentic Peruvian Cuisine last night and are still talking about it! It was a superb, tasty dinner with great service. Fernando guided us through the various wines and explained the native Peruvian dishes as well as dishes from Peru that have other cultural influences. The appetizers and the Peruvian white wine were to rave about, and enjoyed by all. When you go, and you should go, try the Cerviche and share the appetizers and desserts. We are definitely going again.
