We spend a couple of months in Sarasota every year and come to this market most Saturday mornings. Like most "farmers" markets, there are no real farmers. Except one guy, who has been there ever since farmers actually came to these things. He has the most beautiful lettuce I've ever seen, as well as herbs, starfruit, etc. Otherwise, the food vendors are selling exactly the same stuff you'll find at Publix, for about the same price, including tropical fruits like pineapples, bananas and mangoes. Often these things are even identified as to origin, i.e., Ohio, Tennessee, Georgia, etc.
But there are really only a few food vendors. Most are selling homemade goods, flowers, massages, tai chi instruction, crafts, you name it. They really should come up with a more descriptive name, as farmers are not involved anymore.
Sarasotans are crazy about their dogs. Expect a parade, as this is their favorite place to show them off.
