We came here with family, wanting to break bread and catch up, and despite the crowd and short-staffing we had good food and a great time. And no one urged us to leave sooner than we were ready. The food is tasty and well-prepared although not as inventive as their press might lead one to believe. Our server suggested just the right wine and when we all refused to order any of the intriguing desserts, he brought us a plate of small bites of key lime pie. Yum.

We love this restaurant! The staff is wonderful from the friendly hostess to the charming manager. Our waiter, Sam, was helpful and attentive. The menu has many creative sea food dishes. There are also several non sea food selections. The room is both elegant and comfortable. We will be returning soon.

As part of our "date night" my wife and I had dinner at Duval's prior to seeing a show at the Van Wezel Theatre. We were greeted and seated promptly, and our wonderful server went over the specials and helped us make our wine selections. The wine list is extensive and varied, but not overwhelming. My wife had the snapper special while I tried the Seafood Diablo. The meals were expertly prepared and well proportioned!! My wife head requested a "sweeter" fish and commented that the suggested catch of the day was just perfect!! My entree was as spicy as advertised (just the way i wanted it) and went very well with the wine suggested by our server.

During the course of the meal, a couple of the managers stopped by to check on us and the entire staff was very attentive and friendly. The overall experience was great and we will definitely return in the future!!!

Thank Mark M

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel staff. We were seated promptly with our reservation. We had the mahimahi special which was delicious, including the house vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. For dessert we shared the flourless chocolate cake which was also quite good. The setting is intimate but not crowded. Will eat here again on our next visit.

Went here for lunch and we both had the fish and chips special. $10 includes two VERY small pieces of fish, mediocre fries and a soft drink. When the waitress set down our food my first thought was that half of our food was left in the kitchen, or we received a children's portion. I would have rather paid more money for a bigger meal. I'm only giving Duval's 3 stars because the fish was excellent, it's just too bad there wasn't more of it. It was prepared with a light tempura batter and it was flaky and cooked perfectly. I had high hopes for this place but doubt we will return. Too many other good restaurants in Downtown Sarasota. Also don't like leaving a restaurant hungry. They could have added cole slaw, a couple hush puppies, even a bread basket, but we got nothing else. Thumbs down too to the waitress who timed it perfectly to check on us when we just took a bite of food, Alexis...pet peeve of mine, especially since it wasn't busy.

Please accept our apologies for your unfortunate dining experience, you should not leave Duval’s New World Café hungry. Since day one it has always been quality over quantity at Duval’s for our clientele. In order to do so, some of our dishes may have smaller portions because of their high quality. The fish & chips you ordered is our lunch size portion where we can offer the tremendous tastes and quality of one of our dinner entrees for a reasonable price as one of our express lunches and includes a drink all for only $10. If portion size is an important feature for you, we highly recommend trying one of our po boys (Shrimp, Scallop, Oyster or Chicken) with French fries. For around the same amount as the fish & chips, you can receive a hearty sandwich flash fried seafood or chicken, chipotle remoulade, crisp Napa cabbage and fresh Roma tomatoes. The Three Kitcheneers claimed this sandwich as “A po boy that tastes like a million bucks!” Unfortunately it seems as if Alexis came to check on you at the wrong time, but next time please let us know if you are having any issues and we will be more than happy to take care of any of your requests. We can cook some more fish for you, bring a side of cole slaw, or even recommend our renowned bread pudding for dessert! We understand that you enjoyed the food and invite you to come have one of our New Orleans style po boys upon your next dining experience.
