Arrived at 9.00 as they were closing. After a short discussion was offered service. Now this is what all restaurants should be like. Never turn away clientele. Only there for 40 mins, exceptionally good food and wine. Would definitely return and recommend.

Based on consistently glowing reviews and TripAdvisor's very high rating (#12 of 806 Sarasota restaurants) my wife and I have twice in the last three months dropped by to explore Kacey's.

KaCey's offers a reasonably good variety of seafood dishes, starting with the usual family diner selection of fried seafood baskets and moving on to a small interesting eclectic mix of upscale seafood dishes under the heading of “Seafood adventures” and “more” (meaning non-sea-food items). Plus a small “kids menu”. Key lime pie and chocolate toffee mousse for dessert. Small selection of beers and house wines. The ambiance is strictly family diner utilitarian, with formica tables, vinyl covered chairs and a soda dispenser in one corner of the dining area. So KaCey's is not exactly a go-to location for special occasions.

What in our opinion raises KaCey's a notch above other seafood diners is the consistent focus on very good food preparation, consistently cheerful, friendly service and overall very good value for family/casual meals. For us the Ahi tuna offerings, both appetizer and entree versions, were perfectly prepared... tasty and visual delights. Ditto the Mahi Provencale and Salmon Orange Bee Sting entrees. The Crab Cake appetizer was not memorable, but still very good. The Shrimp “Scargot” was also an interesting success... 6 shrimp prepared and served in a classis escargot dish, with loads of garlic and cheese.

Note... on our most recent visit we just dropped by and not unexpectedly had to wait a perfectly acceptable 10 minutes to be seated. We were seated with profuse sincere apologies (although none needed). Turns out that a couple of the service staff had unexpectedly no showed up for work... so the manager had to handle all of the tables by herself. Nevertheless, service throughout, as already mentioned, was friendly, informative and efficient. We each had a glass of wine with our meals... which the manager at the end of the meal offered to comp us for the wait to be seated. We declined, but it was a nice touch nonetheless.

Bottom line rating... given the bare bones ambiance we can not agree that KaCey's truly merits TripAdvisor's excessively high ranking of #12 of 806. But based on food quality, service and family dinner value we rate KaCey's a solid four stars in the family diner category.

Went here hoping for a good lunch and that is about what we received.

The menu isn't very deep at lunch and while I was wanting seafood, a lot of the offerings were fried which usually isn't very inspired so I went with a cheeseburger and Greek salad. Both were fine; no complaints. Need to return and try the seafood. Perhaps that would up my score.

This is a small, casual place with great staff and an engaged owner, Leon. He was on site, and when I asked a few gluten related question of my charming young waiter, he brought Leon to the table.

One of the appetizers. Big Bang Shrimp had been mentioned by other reviewers on this site and was high on my "want" list. Leon said they would be happy to prepare it in a gluten-free way. It was SO good I ordered a second order and made a meal of it with some tasty coleslaw as a side.

The shrimp came on a small bed of chopped lettuce, green onions/scallions, and some other colorful things that I couldn't identify but were a perfect cool complement to balance to the slightly spicy, sweet fresh shrimp.

There were fresh catch of the day specials on a black board priced very reasonably at about $14. The food is prepared in sight, in a clean looking kitchen area. I love little places like this, that prepare serious food in a lighthearted atmosphere.

Great lunch!
