“Great food in Towles Court art district”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

Indigenous runs like a well-oiled machine. The service is excellent, and the food is too. Perhaps they get it right because they don't try to do too much. For example, the menu has meat, fish, and a vegetarian option, but nary a steak or a chicken to be found.

Many readers have commented on the mushroom bisque and short ribs. Both dishes, in our estimation, were terrific. But oh those beignets! Clouds of flaky pastry with parmesan inside, nestled on a bed of minced pears with a hint of thyme. Just when we thought NOLA had beignets sewn up, along came Indigenous with a new rendition that blew us away.

In short, this restaurant is reliable for very good food and excellent service. Dinner for two (with two drinks, plus tax and tip) was around $100.

“Inventive and Skillfull Cooking”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

We booked our table for Indigenous a few weeks before our planned trip to Sarasota, as we wanted to dine on New Years Eve. This was our second trip having first experienced their delights two years ago soon after the restaurant opened.

We reconfirmed our reservation on arrival in Sarasota as requested and on arrival at this cute neighborhood restaurant our table was waiting for us.

Kevin who had been at the restaurant since day one served us. What a delight to have real genuine service by someone who is clearly passionate by his job and the food he is serving.

Try the wild mushroom soup and the shrimp with baked grits Lyonnais l have never been a fan of grits but these completely blew my mind. Recipe please Ginger Chocolate mousse was also a great success. Kevin very kindly provided me with a taster of the Chef’s porcini and coffee ice cream, this was very nice but the porcini was not pronounced enough for my taste. I am a great lover of savory ice creams and produce wild mushroom and camembert ice creams at home in the UK.

I have got to say this was the most inventive and skillfully produced meal that l have eaten in the USA for a long time.

“Best meal in Sarasota to date”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

Highlights included the mushroom bisque and the Cobia special. The short ribs were also outstanding. The preparation for all main courses was well balanced with thought given to complimentary flavours and execution was absolutely flawless. For dessert, the coffee ice cream with a mushroom twist was a pleasant surprise and the chocolate mousse balanced brilliantly with a harder, darker chocolate compliment.

Can't wait to return as I'm curious to see if the chef can repeat. Either way, thank you!

“Consistently Great!”

We enjoyed another wonderful meal at Indigenous this evening. Unquestionably our favorite spot in Sarasota. The service is always superb and the food never disappoints. The fresh fish specials are sure to please the most discerning palate. Many delicious desserts choices to complement a fine meal. We will back I'm sure.

Delightful restaurant near the Sarasota historic district. There is a choice of inside or outside dining depending on the weather. Delicious food and attention to detail accompanied by perfect service. Do not miss this little treasure.
