I just got back from The Ritz in Sarasota and was impressed from the begining.
The Lobby is gorgeous and the staff was calling me by name and serving a glass of champagne before we even checked in.
Like most Ritz properties, the staff is excellent. I will give a shout out to Dino, Larry, Heather and Nikki for their help.
The hotel is unique in that it is in the city on a marina, not on the beach. At first, this was a negative, but being walking distance from the number of options in Sarasota was great. I suggest you take advantage of the location by giving Captain Jack a call and have him pick you up in his 42 foot boat right at the hotel for a sunset cruise at a great price. Thanks Jack and Travis.
Although there is a pool and game room at the hotel, it ain't so great. The pool is covered in shade most of the day. The real action is at the beach club a short drive away. They have a shuttle that goes there, but I would recommend having a car. It really works well. Valeting at the beach club was so relaxing. Just throw the keys to the guy couple of dukes here and there and you are swimming. There is a great Tiki bar just to the south of the beach club that has real good drinks at good prices. One day I had one too many margaritas and felt driving wasn't a good idea. I took the shuttle back instead of driving. The valets brough my car back to the hotel. (Not bad) Although driving is definitely the way to do this hotel it takes a couple of days to figure out the best ingress and egress. (by the way take sunset drive).
The spa is nice but nothing out of the ordinary imo. The golf course is amazing. If you got dough, go there. It is hefty though after tips and drinks... you are looking at over $400 a round. We would have gone back but, university park cc is a little closer a little more difficult and set me back $69 with cart.
Room. A little small, but the bedding whoa... First time I did not get back to my own bed and go yeah.
Food. Real good room service at the hotel. The beach club food was good but not amazing. The kids meals were great and I did not feel like I was getting ripped.
Words for the no-kid crew. This is my third trip to a Ritz property and if you do not have kids...well... I do not think you want to go to any Ritz. It seems as if Ritz is gearing toward familes which is awesome. They are everywhere which is great if you are bringing five of them (which we did). All the families are great too. It is a real good group they cater too, but if you are looking for a romantic place where you can whisper by the pool... This aint it.
Looking forward to the next Ritz experience
