Unfortunately, i had a less than successful experience. Parking is atrocious! The house is "cute" but small with very few tables although there is a patio outside which is dog friendly. However, there was only one table with an umbrella. In Florida, unbrellas are necessary for outside seating. I ordered the French Toast which was nothing special - i wish I had ordered some fruit with it to give it a bit more flavor. One friend ordered the sauteed apple, onion and walnut salad with feta cheese. The portion was large and she thought very good. Another friend ordered the roasted sweet potato, beets and bacon salad. Although it was supposed to be served with an orange vinaigrette, there was NO evidence of dressing anywhere. My companion was told it was on the veggies. It might have been on the beets but certainly there was none on the potato, bacon or lettuce. Even with dressing, the salad basically didnt work and was unappealing to look at..

The worse part was the wait. Our order was taken promptly but it was at LEAST 1/2 hour before ONE order was brought out. The other two also came separately. All in all, it was about 45 minutes of sitting with nothing to munch on and waiting for our meals. The restaurant was not busy and our orders not complicated - there was no excuse for the bad service.

Based on my experience with the food, the wait and the parking, i wouldnt return. There are plenty of other places in Sarasota for this type of meal - Toasted Mango and The Breakfast House to name two (both of them also have decent parking)

Superior food in an insider's dream atmosphere. The food is American Retro-Hearty at it's best. This is the fun-est place to celebrate a birthday or pass a pleasant brunch with friends. The food is clean, hot and familiar - the very best renditions of home-cooking you will have had in years. The service is efficent but unobtrusive, the baking is superior, the coffee is pungent and steaming, and the atmosphere is bright, clean and fun: strewn with unusual flowers and interesing antiques. Distinguish yourself from the masses by taking your guests to this hidden jewel box of a restaurant, nestled in a sweet little old house, surrounded by the hustle of downtown Sarasota.

Wonderful old house decor and great food. Wife liked the coffee is a large mug. The morning hash was great. Picture of the owners family hung from the walls. It was like eating at grandma's. They have live music on certain days.

New this year, and Seriously hidden. You have to LOOK for this place, on a one-way lane in downtown Sarasota, by the post office—a charming small early to mid-century house, with a tiny patio in back where they do weekly BBQs with music. The food is fresh and abundant – and HUGE. Went there for lunch and could have shared any of the entrees that came out. Very few tables, in 3 “rooms” that each had their own antique touches. The main room and the very front room with just one table had the best light, but all were nice.

The women running the restaurant came by their Southern cooking credentials honestly – the food quality was quite excellent, the tastes authentic. Service was pleasant and friendly, though leisurely. A great spot to meet friends for lunch, will go again soon.

The innkeeper at the Hotel Ranola recommends this for breakfast. It's right next door to the hotel, has a pretty interesting breakfast and lunch menu and does "Beer and Burgers" on Thurday evening. I had warm mini donuts, which were great, but my wife's oatmeal was a nasty solid slab -- and the coffee was weak and watery. We won't go back, there are plenty of good breakfast options nearby.
