“Average course, for the price”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

This private course has opened up to non members on a restricted basis. The course is old style, with narrow tree lined fairways, smaller well positioned greens and strategic sand traps. For the price, there are a lot of nicer better maintained courses in both Sarasota and further south. The driving range in not complimentary as are most private courses and is in a triangle, where a well hit ball goes out onto one of the adjacent fairways. The practice area is small and not well maintained. The pace of play is ok, with members walking the course. The top 5 handicap holes fit their billing. Get your lower score on the front nine as the back nine is tougher. Great finishing par 5, with a double dog leg, water, sand and a two tiered elevated green. I got a deal to play here, but would not for the 50$ plus green fee for the quality.

“Pleasant surprise”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

When we lived in Sarasota this was a private country club. While visiting, we decided to visit the club to see what kind of tee times we could get for the following day. Much to our surprise, there was only 2 cars in the parking lot at 3:00 PM. The course was quite wet and cart path only on 6 holes. There is quite a few interesting holes that require accurate shotmaking, especially on the back nine. Fantastic closing hole. We teed off at 11:00AM and finished in 3 1/2 hours. We had the course pretty much to ourselves. We are looking forward to when this course dries out a bit to play this beautiful challenging course again before the snowbirds get here. Bring your A game!!!

“Nice course, decent value.”
Reviewed August 27, 2013 via mobile

Nice course, though you can tell it was a better course, and possibly a fine country club with tennis courts in its day. Now the tennis courts are overgrown with shrubs.
I had asked about club rentals before booking on Golfnow - they said they had Callaways for $20/set.
We did rent clubs - they were absolutely terrible, mixed bag from the 70's, with some Callaway woods - dinged up with hardly any grip. After trying to tee-off the 1st hole we asked if they had anything better- they said this was the best set!
Later, about 3rd hole they brought out another bag- much, much nicer - combo of Cleveland woods, Cobra hybrids and Ping Rapture irons and a Never Compromise putter. Much, much nicer otherwise we'd probably have quit playing after 3 or 4 holes.

The course itself is scenic and despite heavy rains, in good shape. The fairways and greens were very nice.
I recommend the Pro-shop buy some complete sets like inexpensive Wilson's or Dunlops for rentals. Otherwise they'll disappoint visitors like us, especially when they depend on the claim of being a LPGA or Florida championship class course.

“Great food at the clubhouse.”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

I am not a golfer, but I have eaten dinner frequently at the clubhouse. It has always been an enjoyable experience. The food and service are superb, and the view of the course is beautiful.
