Dolce Italia is a small, family-run Italian place right out of the foothills of Tuscany! If you are looking for glitz, fancy appointments or ocean views this is not the place for you, but if you want real Italian cuisine with authentic Italian recipes served by Italian speaking staff, you will find nothing better in Sarasota! Although the regular menu is limited in choices to those most American eaters will recognize, the specials are authentic Italian specialties; I had the Brasciola with Pappardele pasta, while my wife had the Gnocchi. Both were delicious, with excellent pasta and authentic--not canned--tomato sauce. The choice of Italian wines to accompany the meal offered a wide variety of Italian varietals and prices; we chose a Tuscan Morellino, which was a perfect match for the pasta dishes. The owner, Fillipo, is gracious and willing to please, allowing us to eat after the usual 9pm closing time due to the small number of tables and large crowd on a Monday evening. This is the kind of place I would love to have in my home town (Louisville,KY) that I could frequent on a weekly basis. Grazie, Fillipo, ci vediamo!
