“Rustic dining elegance”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

This place looks like a fishing camp but once inside, the food is world-class. i've eaten there a few times and haven't had a bad meal yet. It is not the cheapest seafood place in town but it is reasonable. No ocean view but a cool giant banyan tree and one of the few places in town you can eat "outside" on a porch. There are great shops in the area and some stay open latish in season and of course, there is the independent movie theater, a dying breed. And one of the few places in town you can get gourmet southern food like collard greens. Singletons like myself are treated well.

“Good Experience”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

Owen's is located in the Burn's court area, so automatically you know that a) the ambiance will probably be awesome and b) It won't be cheap. Owen's is reasonably priced in my opinion. I had the fish and chips. Seafood is one of those things that when fried can seemingly end up bland. Owen's has conquered this. The fish and chips were awesome! In fact, I would order them again. My mom also had the fish and chips, she agreed that it was great. For what you get, I think it's reasonably priced. Of course, I didn't see hush puppies on the menu, but this is Sarasota. The service was also good and the ambience was very cool and inviting.

“Excellent Southern Cooking”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

My friends and I had the pleasure of enjoying a great fish dinner at Owen's on September 30th. This very cool and quaint little restaurant was recommended by 2 locals. We were so glad we took their advice. The Chilean Sea Bass was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The sides were unique and equally tasty. We shared a slice of pecan pie which was delicious, not too sweet like most and topped with homemade whipped cream and a strawberry. Just love this place.

“Thoroughly enjoyable”

We had a really nice meal here tonight. Fresh punchy flavors and generous potions. Polite if perfunctory service. It was very reasonably price, Thoroughly recommended.

“Disappointing....”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

We were really looking forward to this dinner. What a disappointment.

Parking is horrendous. Be prepared to walk a few blocks. Also google it first. IF you are not familiar with downtown Sarasota - this place could be difficult to locate.

The food had a few bright spots - the catfish was excellent. The "New England" clam chowder was also delicious (but do not expect New England style in color or taste) but a good chowder none-the-less. Pretty much downhill from there. The snails - not good. There was five of us and no one would eat them. Ditto the lobster roll - (given the taste and texture - this was not fresh lobster).

Service - our waitress was very pleasant, smiled a lot, described every dish as delicious. She forgot almost every request - more water, another beer, mayo, please. But after a gentle reminder or two, we got what we wanted - and the beautiful smile.

It is on the pricey side! And the hostess is not particularly pleasant...bordering on rude. She needs to take smiling lessons from the waitress.

I know this place has many good reviews; and maybe we just went on an off night. I wouldn't recommend it and we have too many choices of other excellent restaurants to even give it a second try.
