We love this trail, it connects into the Venice waterway trail and we can get onto it just behind where we live. We can get down into Venice real easy by way of one of 3 different bridges. Going north from our place you can go up to Palmer Park and get to a lot of places up there.

Paved, dedicated bike trail with no cars to worry about. Great venue. Connects with intracoastal trails at the Venice train station. Perfect riding venue for folks like me who aren't comfortable riding on streets.

I really like the Legacy Trail. It's long, wide, paved, and flat, making for an easy ride. It's also well-maintained and has easy access. Why 4 stars instead of 5? Much of it isn't very interesting to look at because it's a converted railroad track with a straight shot of trees and/or houses on either side of the trail. The trees haven't grown a canopy over the trail yet either, so there's also no shade. Still a great ride, though!

While you are visiting the absolutely fabulous beaches in and around Sarasota, plan a morning or afternoon to take a bike ride along the Legacy Trail. No bike? Rentals are everywhere! If biking isn't for you, locate a trailhead and stroll the very well paved path. There are rest stops along the way to sit and let your soul soak up the sweet essence of nature at it's best. You will hear soft rippling of a creek that runs alongside the trail. Birds sing a welcome song to you and the air is as fragrant as flowers. It is one of Sarasota's treasures and it is absolutely free! Plan time into your visit for a stop here - it is good for the soul.

Took the 20 mile round trip the other day. Standard flat old railway right of way, well converted. The absolutely best part is the bridge into Venice which steps up as it crosses the bay/river that separates the island of Venice from the mainland. Pass through farmland, backyards, old industrial zones, Palmer Ranch, some busy streets . . . not taxing at all. I can't imagine what this will be like in the hell of Sarasota's summer, with sun beating down, rain beating down and humidity pouring down . . . but it's a treat in mid-winter.
