“Great place to ride, walk or skate”

Finally the Legacy Trail is complete and provides a nice place to bike ride safely away from traffic. The trail goes all the way from Sarasota (around Palmer Ranch) to the Venice Train Station. If that ride isn't enough for you---you can continue to ride along the Venetian Waterway Park which spans both sides of a waterway. The Legacy Trail goes past several parks where you can stop to use the restroom or get a drink of water or just take a rest. There are several rest stops too with benches and trash receptacles---where you can have a picnic lunch. They have really done a nice job with the trail. We are lucky to have it.

“Great place for a ride”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2012

If you are coming from out of town, I recommend you start in Venice by the train station. Actually the most scenic ride is right in Venice, but if you are into speed or distance, head north towards Sarasota. The first miles are some of the most scenic. You will cross over hwy 41 on the new bike bridge and continue to the lovely bridges over Dona Bay. These really are gorgeous. As you continue north the scenery gets less spectacular. If you decide to ride in Venice you can ride on the bike path along the Intracoastal waterway. In parts, this is beautiful and in parts its just a ditch. Keep a watch out for gopher tortises and various wildlife. If you cross the Circus Bridge you can bike to Casperson Beach for a break, then continue along Beach Road, past the airport (that part is definitely not scenic) but it will lead you to the lovely neighborhoods in Venice where you can bike along enjoying the lovely homes and landscapes. Take a break at Venice Beach and then continue to the Jetty to watch the pelicans and fishermen. Wind around keeping the water to your left and you will end up in the quaint dowtown business area. Take the bridge back over to your starting point at the Train Depot.

“Perfect for fitness activities outdoors”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2012

We just discovered the Legacy Trail on our recent visit to the Venice/Sarasota area in Florida. This is a 10-mile long paved rail-trail, perfect for running, walking, and biking. The south end is near the historic train depot in Venice by the intercoastal. As it meanders to its north end, there are bridges over US 41, Roberts Bay, and Dona Bay. Along the way it passes several parks with parking and restroom facilities and goes through the middle of Oscar Sherer Park continuing on to its end in Sarasota. We enjoyed several walks exploring various portions of the trail along with many other walkers, runners, and lots of bicyclers. Wonderful!!

“Excellent”

Really worth the trip. We rented from Real Bikes on the 41-Bypass, just before you turn into Venice. Trick: it is write on the mid-point of the trail. Go either north or south - a beautiful, well kept, paved (and very straight) path.
