Owner description: Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary provides a sanctuary "for life" for the exotic animals currently calling the sanctuary home. Our goal is to create habitats that mimic native environments and are complete with a staff that can provide daily behavioral, sensory, and manipulative enrichment which is the basis for a happy healthy animal in captivity. As we grow and open our habitat to more rescues we will provide the same excellent care while educating the public.

Get up close & personal to wild animals-such as bears, tigers, monkeys & tortoises-who are being cared for in an unusually non-commercial, casual venue. We spent a delightful Sunday afternoon enjoying the show, eating Nathan's hot dogs, & watching rescued animals do their thing...like a sister & brother tiger snuggling & nuzzling!

“Wow, what a hidden treasure we have in the Sarasota/Bradenton area with this place!!!!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2012

The family had the day off so we wanted to do something that we had never done before. (MY family and I have lived in the Sarasota area for the last 42 years so we thought we had done it all). What a surprise we had when we decided to go to the Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary. I had only previously heard of this place and seen floats in Christmas Parades of this place but had never visited or knew exactly where it was. Turns out it is east of the interstate which is 23 miles from our home as the crow flies so unless travelling we tend to rarely go out this far east. We were very happy that we ventured here.
The admissions to this place is a suggested donation of $15 for adults and $8 for those under 12. Well worth the price and since this place is a 501C3 charity all the monies go to the feeding and care of the animals. I never thought I would come to this place and see more than lions and tigers but do not let the name fool you. It is more of an attraction like Busch Gardens with animals. I was able to see live and in person Kodiak Bears, a Black Himalayan Bear, a Leopard and a Black Leopard, tortoises, Squirel Monkeys, Ring tailed Lemur Monkey and yes the tigers and Lions...got to see a 4 month old Tiger cub named Juliette feeding from a bottle which the feeder said they do up until the age of 2 sometimes.
A great place for kids and people who have never seen large animals up close and not in the wild. Take the family and kids here and plan a good 1-2 hours to complete the walking path tour to see all the animals. While we did not see one today they do have an animal show when the owners son is in town and not on the road with the show that they take all around to raise money and get educate the public about these marvelous creatures.

“Feel good feeling...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2012

From what we understand, all animals at the Big Cat Habitat are rescued animals. We were assured that all of the animals were safe and would remain in the habitat as they were not capable of being returned to their "native" habitat. With that said and knowing that they were finally safe, we felt that Big Cat Habitat was truly there for the welfare of the animals.

The owner did provide very valuable information on their purpose and from all accounts, they are certainly there for the right reasons.

All of the animals were beautiful, but the big cats were incredibly gorgeous!!!

“Interesting and Fun Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2012

What a great way to spend an afternoon. The site is well maintained and the rescued animals are treated well in a clean habitat. The petting zoo is such fun and the show under the "big top" was not only entertaining but informative. A bonus is knowing the money is going for a very good cause.
