Description: The idea of MoZaic restaurant came alive more than ten years ago while brainstorming words that could define the kind of cuisine, service, and atmosphere we desire to bring to our guests. The Southern French- and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine is flavorful, fresh, and fits into the healthier lifestyle popular in Southwest Florida. MoZaic is committed to a guest-friendly cuisine that is seasonal and market driven, utilizing fruits and vegetables from local farmers and seafood from surrounding waters. Chef Dylan Elhajoui offers a cuisine that is adventurous yet familiar, innovative yet disciplined, expressive yet intelligent. It's southern European, western Mediterranean, and uniquely American-flavors of the modern mosaic-utilizing familiar influences from cultures that create beautiful mosaics. They also reflect a mosaic of cultures, the diversity that affects their gastronomy in a rich and delicious way. MoZaic restaurant reflects all of these influences, which in turn will attract a mosaic of guests-many cultures, colors, ages-who love fresh, seasonal and wonderful food. The ingredients are familiar, but the expression of them is unique and satisfying, inspired and inspiring. What is Dylan's cuisine? Chef Dylan's cuisine originates in Morocco and the Mediterranean where an abundance of fresh vegetables, fruits, meats and fish are gathered daily. A country where so many cultures have left their marks: Carthaginians, Romans, Phoenicians, Byzantines, Moors, Spaniard, Jews, French, Berbers-a true mosaic of cultures. The Mediterranean is a hub where travelers, merchants, fishermen, and farmers gathered to buy, sell, and trade herbs and spices, and the earth's and sea's bounty. Dylan's cuisine reflects these influences from the western coast of Italy to the Rock of Gibraltar in southern Spain. The flavors include olive oil, tomatoes, garlic, lemon (fresh and preserved), eggplants, honey, fennel, aromatics, and so much more. The ingredients are not strange or exotic, but really quite familiar. However, the flavors are intoxicating. Mediterranean cultures create community around food. It's a celebration of the earth's goodness, setting the scene for friendly gatherings and sharing of experiences. MoZaic restaurant likewise will nurture this same type of community, becoming a friendly gathering place, but in a uniquely American way.

“Amazing dining experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

We went with a group to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious!!!! Everything was made to perfection. The chef came out to speak with us and gave a complementary birthday dessert that was out of this world. Every course was special. Each person ordered something different and everyone absolutely loved what they ordered. It was presented beautifully and tastefully. Can't wait to go back.

A true fine dining experience.

“Great Food, Attentive Server, GF Friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

This is the second time we've visited Sarasota and the second time we've been to Mozaic for dinner. Both times we've had an excellent experience. By chance we also had the same server, Jeff, both times. Jeff is personable, knows the menu inside and out, is attentive and made sure my friend's meal was gluten free. The support staff was also excellent, making sure water glasses were filled, plates removed when appropriate, etc. The prices are a little high, but as a treat, it's worth it.

The meal started with an amuse bouche (yes, I do watch Top Chef); a cold soup with shrimp that was very tasty. For the main dish, I had the lightly sage-smoked duck breast & poached pears w/ goat cheese polenta. It was absolutely delicious, cooked just the way I requested and plenty to eat. My friend had the flat iron steak with parsnip puree and asparagus. It was tender, well seasoned and also delicious. We declined dessert. Before we left, we were served a small piece of chocolate truffle that just melted in your mouth and make the perfect end to a perfect meal.

One other thing that Mozaic does that I have not seen at other restaurants is they have wine by the glass in 6 oz and 3 oz serving sizes. So, if you just want to whet your appetite or join in a toast with others in your party but don't really drink a lot, the 3 oz size is perfect...and less expensive!

“Great food BUT the service was the worst, anywhere, ever”

Went there for a holiday dinner celebration on Saturday 12/29. The food was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, the service was the worst we have ever had, anywhere, ever...

Mozaic, Owner at MoZaic, responded to this review, January 7, 2013
Hello,
I was sorry to read about the poor service you received during your recent dinner with us. I have been trying to remember any service related issues for that particular evening but nothing stands out other than recalling how busy we were. I would very much appreciate a call from you so I can get a more complete understanding about what occurred and hopefully I can entice you to consider giving us another opportunity to show you a true Mozaic experience.
Best Regards, John

“Food great, service uneven”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013

Went here New Year's Eve (our 2nd visit). They were still printing menus when we arrived. We asked for sparkling water, they said they had run out. They served a 3 (really 4) course set menu for the evening-everything was really tasty and flavorful. Service was quite unorganized (our server said they were still getting instructions as we were getting seated.) We asked for quick service as we had another event to attend, and they were accomodating but their stress level was apparent and stressed us out as well.

So overall, this place has excellent food but uneven service. My guess is they have a great chef, but do not have people who know how to run a restaurant. It's pricey, so I expect both great food and great service. I'd eat here again for the food, but wouldn't go here again for a special occasion.

“Good Food....Great Dessert”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

First ate there for dessert, excellent, with good service, ate there again Christmas Eve. Food was good, not outstanding, but good, service was good, but atmosphere was so chaotic with owners running around as if they were pissed off at something, it was not relaxing at all. Not once did owners come and ask how our dining experience was. It was not real good. I think they were overwhelmed with business and it affected their ambiance which attracted us there in the first place. Steak was to be medium rare, was overcooked, but edible and good, waiter immediately noticed and offered to have another cooked, decided after seeing how busy they were to go ahead and eat it, it would have taken forever to get a new one and it was not relaxing there anyway. Such a shame, as it was before. I would eat there again, but never never on a busy night. Waiter could not have been kinder, but he was overworked as well. If restaurants would concentrate on serving a smaller groups instead of trying to feed the masses all at one time it would be a nicer thing.
