Great addition to a trip the Mote aquarium. Support local efforts to save and rehabilitate birds and see some really cool exhibits.
If you love owls, or even like them then this is a must see place. Take time to whistle and talk to the birds a surprising number of species actually seem to enjoy interaction with guests. Have fun.

This is the continuation of the previous Pelican Man sanctuary, and it continues to provide excellent service and great up-close views of birds in mid-rehabilitation. It's definitely a place for birders and people who love wildlife, but there isn't much interactive here. I'd say if your kids are into animals, they'll like it - but if not, they'll be a little bored.

With so much wonderful wildlife it is natural that some of them get hurt along the way. The SOS is doing a great job to help them rehabilitate and continue with quality of life when they can't be released into the wild. It is an excellent way to see all the different species that are native to Florida as well. They need donations to keep going and the $5 entrance fee is well worth it to help their cause. It is next door to the Mote Aquarium and fits well into the opportunity to learn about Florida sealife.

One amazing point, if you have seen Winter the dolphin at the Clearwater aquarium and know the story of her prosthesis tail well the same generous doctor who fashioned that for Winter has saved some Sandhill Cranes as well.

They have very long and fragile legs and can get hit by golf balls and have accidents. The ones here all have new legs and can happily continue their lives.

There are a lot of birds and numerous species and I will definitely go back. Great for kids too so they can learn about the birds as well.

This place is absolutely amazing. I enjoyed it so very much. They have rescued birds on display. There was so much more to the place than it looks like from the parking lot, and there are more than just seabirds. I quite enjoyed watching the raptors. It was neat to learn about the sandhill cranes and to observe the ones with prosthetic legs. The signage near the exhibits was great and helpful, and the docents were interacted with were knowledgeable. It was so worth the very small $5 entry fee (you can donate more if you have the money and would like to, and I am sure it is well appreciated).

I really loved it and hope to go back more frequently. If you are visiting Mote, it is a great addition to your day!

For bird lovers or those who care about our fine feathered friends in FL.
We love what they are doing--saving our seabirds. Docents were very
knowledgeable and we learned a lot.
