“Nice hotel! Only one complaint...”
Reviewed May 10, 2012

This is a newer Hampton I&S and as much as I travel I did not find the decor very comfortable. This is a green hotel so the lighting itself being flourescent is not a very warm, inviting light. And lighting can make decor inviting or not. That said, the hotel was clean, adequate and very much what you expect from Hampton. The staff was very friendly and very accommodating. My complaint is really more with hotels at this grade level and that is they have the HVAC in the wall and most of these units are incredibly loud and annoying. Plus, the rooms on the University side can be noisy with traffic in the early am and late night cycle racing. Overall, great stay.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 335 (University St. side).

We are on a cross country trip from California. So fsr we have stayed in 14 different hotels. This king bed room was most adequate, with a full size mini bar w/fridge & micro. We took advantage of the shuttle service to take us and pick up to Ringling Museum, and later to dinner...a very nice extra. All of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. When we discovered we had left a hanging bag in the closet Anatole at the desk went out of his way to locate a box for FedEx. Without his help we would have had to return from Naples.

The hotel was still new looking, so that was a huge plus! Decorated nicely, comfortable rooms, great area. Everyday there was something different for breakfast and happy hour (and it was always good). The fresh-baked cookies around 5 are a perk! Additionally, the front desk staff (Jeremy, in particular) was so friendly and accomodating- above and beyond! I would absolutely stay there again, if I'm in Sarasota.

I understand why it is ranked #3 by Tripadvisor. A unique ,new 2yo building unlike any other Hampton Inn of my travels and the theme is Green but with conservation to a fault. I will discuss this later.
Wonderful friendly greeting, snagged a Diamond Honors upgrade to a fourth floor suite. We arrived at 10am to get a map and determine when the room would be ready and somehow the keys were handed to me and we were unpacking 10 minutes later. Perfect walkable location to the Ringling Museums and a few miles from I-75. It had a very liberal free happy hour with heavy enough appetizers to satisfy us both nights. Everything was sparkling new, wide sunny hallways, fast elevators, friendly typical breakfasts, decent mattresses and linen and quiet--I have no idea how they manage to muffle the plane noise from the nextdoor airport. No coin laundry but no worries, the hotel will wash a load for free or let you do it yourself if you are squeamish about someone touching your underwear.
The outside parking will hint at what awaits--numerous primo spots reserved for electric cars, hybrid cars or HOV transportation. In the lobby there is a TV screen that is monitoring the power usage of the building and efficiency is the theme.. When we checked into the room it
registered 74F so I set the thermostat to 70F to cool it and off we went to the museum. When we returned 3 hours later it registered 76F and was off. Only after resetting it to 70F did it start up again as we walked about the room, cooling somewhat but ceased when we sat down for our laptop internet fix. I finally realized that the AC WAS CONTROLLED BY A MOTION DEVICE
-so to cool the room you had to walk around a bit. Since we are immobile when we sleep and neither of us sleepwalk I became proactive, went to the front desk and demanded control of the AC. They want to conserve [ save money on electricity ] and must think no AC at night is just fine. They finally sent a maintenance guy up to the room to uncouple the wall thermostat from the wall unit and we had control, it cycled on/off all night keeping the room at 70F. He stated that this thermostat device has been the cause of numerous complaints so if you are hot- natured you might want to be "wasteful" and ask to control cooling at night and not be at the mercy of a energy device.

Room Tip: Uncouple motion device from AC thermostat

The Hampton Inn Suites Sarasota was a very nice hotel. The room was clean and nice. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good with fresh fruit. And, it was close to the Ringling Museum area, St. Armands Circle and Siesta Beach which were all great areas to explore.

Yes it does look like a government or industrial building on the outside, but inside is clean and green. I would love to find out where they bought their windows - I never heard a plane or the storm outside. Great location - walking distance to the airport and Ringling. Driving distance down Univeristy Parkway are plenty of restaurants, grocery and other stores. Breakfast was okay - only liked the waffles. Very clean room and comfortable beds with a friendly staff. Only thing I could find to complain about would be a larger garbage bin. The garbage is split for recycle, so you have "half" a garbage can in the living room and a small one in the bathroom. I was also suprised there was no refrigerator since it was a Hampton Inn. Also liked the LED lights around the bathroom switch - did not need to turn on the light in the middle of the night :)

New property w/ excellent staff and accommodations. They even have meeting rooms for business, an ATM, in-ground pool, laundry facilities and a Snack Shop if you get hungry or thirsty (wine, too!). Best breakfast, cleanest, most comfortable. They also have electric car chargers. Like a full service hotel. Nice, nice people - and we've been to many Hampton Inns. Right next to airport and easy access to freeway.
