“nice boat ride”
Reviewed July 7, 2009

We purchased combined aquarium and boat tour tickets. The boat ride was very nice. We passed some nice homes on the bay before we did a little nature walk on one island. On the way back they dropped a net and brought in small sea creatures which everyone enjoyed passing around and viewing. The aquarium was small but nice. They offered a section where you could sift for sharks teeth. My daughter really enjoyed that. A very pleasant way to spend a few hours.

“Fun Experience”
Reviewed June 27, 2009

My 12 and 8 year old girls and I went on a Nature Safari with Mote and then spent the rest of our day exploring the aquarium. The safari was a great experience, cost was around $110 for the 3 of us. Took a little over 2 hours. Our tide was very high and so we got extremely wet. Phone staff did not prepare us for any of this. If you go, wear a swimsuit with shorts over it and water shoes that you can walk in water with and they won't come off (not flip flops). Also, you might consider bug spray and be sure and wear LOTS of sunscreen. We had a very good time and we learned a lot about the local sea life, unfortunately we did not see a manatee or a dolphin. I researched the website and thought admission to Mote was included, but was wrong. Mote was enjoyable, call ahead and try to find out when they will be working with the dolphins, we made the last 2 min. of this. Kids really enjoyed tanks where they could touch the marine life. Now they can say they touched a stingray!

“great little aquarium with lots to see”
Reviewed June 20, 2009

Was surprised at how nice this one was based on some of the reviews here. Ended up spending about 4 hours there. Checked out the 2 interactive theatre shows (dolphins and the food chain trying to get to the white shark status). Also had a 12 minute movie about sharks, loved the stingrays, manatees, dolphins, sharks, seahorses, jellyfish, eels, etc. Though the aquarium was built in the 50s it has been well maintained. Not a huge place but very well managed. Ate at the 50s Diner which was fine, nothing fancy but everyone liked what they ordered. Also, the Save Our Seabirds Sanctuary (previously Pelican Man Seabird Sanctuary) shares the parking lot. Entrance to that is free though you can take cleaning supplies, etc to help them out which we did. Some complain abou the price but if you think about the cost of feeding and caring for all those creatures I really look at it as a small donation.

“A Nice Place”
Reviewed May 20, 2009

My wife and I went here and thought it was pretty nice. Others complain about the price but it seems to be going towards a good cause. The turtles are really neat to see and I thought their movie about sharks was well done. No it is not Disney World quality but still worth going to.

“We enjoyed it”
Reviewed December 23, 2008

I agree with others that it's a little pricy, but the staff was friendly and I'm glad they offer a public opportunity to visit a research facility such as this.

We enjoyed the smaller viewing tanks indoors; the petting area for sea cucumbers, sand dollars, etc.; the hammerhead shark tank; the shark tank that allows one to view from above and below (behind glass); the petting area for sea rays; the turtle tanks; and the dolphin tank.

A small 50's-themed cafe offers basic friend foods and tasty ice cream.

We'll be back.
