This place is where a family wants to go to enjoy a peaceful and fulfilling day as well as to learn about nature and its inhabitants.
There are zoos and botanical gardens but this one has a friendly staff a joyful atmosphere and a great place for kids to PLAY.
If you are the type that wants solace and time to think you also have it.
Just go and enjoy it!

I love the name! That's what it is! It's a tropical place with some cool animals. Their animals have been rescued and many are not able to be released. This place has some great history and is a beautiful place to spend the afternoon. It is fun to feed the flamingos and see the animals shows. I go there at least once a year and it's great to see they are constantly making nice improvements to the property. I love the mural that was painted by the playground along the fence. Painted by students of the nearby art college. Going there at Christmas is really beautiful at night. They have lots of fun activities and beautiful decorations. AND I love the gift shop!

This place isn't a fancy Zoo, a thrilling theme park, or a botanical garden. But what it is is a very enjoyable mix of all three things. The garden has a way to entertain children without all the exhaustive experiences of a theme park, has beautiful paradise like grounds to explore and walk through, and have a very small but interesting array of birds, reptiles and animals. It's a small attraction that may cost a bit too much (but supports the mission of conservation) but gives you a more mellow thing to do with your family and friends. My kids enjoy it and we go every year when we are in Sarasota. You have to be open minded to enjoy this place, and not someone who wants every bang for their buck. I say it's worth a leisurely afternoon. There is a play area, informational side shows, beautiful flamingos to feed, and nice trails to walk through and enjoy Floridas natural flora and fauna.

Grandkids (2 & 4) liked it. Able to hold and/or pet a 4' alligator. Flamingos were fun..but a bit intimidating, taller than the kids and swarmed around when hand feeding (the sell the feed). The 4 yr old was overwhelmed..and a bit frightened. The bird show was entertaining and informative. Overall a good way to spend 1-2 hrs with kids. A bit pricey, but for a good cause ( they rescue some animals). A lot of the trails are densely shaded by jungle plants..so not excessively hot even on a 93° day.
However, Disney it ain't. Some things were closed. Cement ponds were full of green water. But I would recommend taking the kids.

My husband and I especially enjoyed the bird show and were impressed that 1 of the maccaws was actually on the Ed Sullivan Show 35 years ago! This show was typical of what Busch Gardens used to have as a bird show. Not so impressed with the "gardens". However, the staff were some of the nicest, knowledgeable we have seen. Pleasant way to spend a few hours.
