The Ringling is simply a wonderful place to spend the day. It's a combination of a wonderful art museum with it's own great standing art collection as well as traveling exhibits, a fascinating and educational circus museum and the magnificent former winter home of Mable and John Ringling perched over the bay. To get the most our of your visit, try to go with one of the docents through the museum ---well worth the effort. Also, you can tour the Ca D'Zan Mansion for an extra fee and that is definitely worth doing. So much history there. The grounds are magnificent with huge banyon trees, a rose garden and lots of paths to stroll. You can even sit on the patio by the bay and watch boats sail by and let your eyes feast on the view. The Treviso restaurant by the museum shop is not to be missed. Great food in an cozy setting. A fabulous day at the Ringling.

My husband and I visited The Ringling today. It was rated as a "Gem" in the AAA Travel Book, so we figured it would be worth our while, but it exceeded my expectations. Walking around the grounds was worth the price of admission - it is beautiful! The Circus Museum was a lot of fun, and will be especially enjoyed by people who attended Ringling's circus in their heyday. The rose garden was beautiful, even in January. We enjoyed the Ca'd'Zan House Tour, and the art museum is awesome. While children would probably not enjoy most of the visit, there is a picnic and playground area. I definitely recommend this activity.

The Ringling is composed of the mansion, Ca d'Zan, the art museum, the 2 circus buildings, and various gardens at this bayside setting. We purchased the general admission. The mansion doesn't take much time and is worth seeing. The old circus museum was more interesting than we expected due to the excellent docent tour led by Will Pearson. The Tibbals Learning Center has an amazing scale model of the circus encampment of yesteryear. If time permits, it would be better to see the circus museum before the Tibbals Center.
For a serious art enthusiast, the art museum's collection of European art from the Middle Ages through the 18th Century was informative but not of the highest quality, except for Rubens. There was no non Western art on display. A temporary exhibit of contemporary glass was also very good

We spent 6 hours to see everything without lingering in any area.

Went to look at Art and the Winter Palace / house - (both a full visit) - and got wholly absorbed in the family history and the circus museum also on site. Poignant and beautiful.
