Myakka River State Park is a lovely state park with abundant wild life in a serene setting. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised to see such a beautiful setting and be able to get "up close and personal" to the wildlife.....alligators sunning on the bank, spoonbills flying high overhead, turtles digging in the mud, water snakes resting near the bridge, etc. We also enjoyed our trek up the 75 foot tower to view the wetlands, grasslands and prairie above the tree canopy. To ensure that you can take the various wildlife tours offered, check the time schedules for the tours AS SOON AS you get to the park. There is a summer schedule and winter schedule.

All the adults in the party seemed to enjoy the visit, however we had three children travelling with us and two of them have special needs.
The children found the park a little boring, which meant there were complaints from them, and which also meant that the adults didn't enjoy it as much as probably they would have liked.

The wildlife and unsullied natural beauty of the park were a wonder to behold. Enjoyed the canopy walk, had a picnic, saw alligators and a bounty of birds. Natural and serene - a wonderful park.

We got there in plenty of time for the first air boat ride, there are 3 a day I think. We paid $6 for a car with three people in it and $12 each for air boat tickets, which I think is very good for an hour long ride. As we were early we wandered down a board walk to look at loads of gators and lots of interesting birdies. Then we got on the boat and sat outside behind the guide/driver which was an excellent place to sit. We went out into the middle of the lake and saw loads of alligators, some of which were 15 feet long, We saw three kinds of heron, little blue, tri colour and great blue. There were roseate spoonbills and snowy egret and little egret and there were sandhill cranes. We loved it. The guide was very good. We could have sat on the lake all day. After we took a walk through the woods to the tree top affair which made me vaguely hysterical, but then heights can do that! I did get to the top though, around 85 feet up! The whole place is beautiful and easily accessed. You can come back within a year on the same ticket for a half price boat or safari ride. I love this place, go!

Wow what a great place to see wildlife. Gators, all kids of birds, plants. The airboat ride was terrific. Animal were close and plentiful The guide was knowledgeable and funny. Great tour. The other places to see like the 100 ft bird walk was amazing. Also liked the nature walk and the high treetop walk.
