“Wasn't worth it for us”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

We were staying on Anna Maria so this was a bit of a drive for us. The park is very spread out, and so you're almost forced to drive from destination to destination inside the park. The hikes weren't very long, and kind of repetitive. Interesting tower, but really, not that exciting. Plus, it was not the warmest day in December and quite windy, so we didn't get the benefit of seeing any alligators. Maybe that would have changed things, but all in all, not the most exciting park.

“Nice park”
Reviewed December 25, 2012

My husband and I spend the afternoon at the park, but should have gone earlier and spent the day. There were numerous trails to bike and hike and lots of great picnic spots. We took the boat tour. If you have taken another boat tour I would skip this one. Not that it was bad, just not as interesting as I had hoped (we see more alligators on the golf course and have read all about them so didn't learn a lot).

“Alligators, alligators, alligators”
Reviewed December 24, 2012

A lake about a mile across a couple of miles long and three or four feet deep is the home of many alligators (100s?) . Two airboats each capable of seating about 40 people slowly meander around the lake while the captain/naturalist narrates facts about Florida alligators.

A suspension foot bridge between a large live oak and a tall tower lets visitors view plant life in the tree tops.

Other board walks are good for birding.

Evidence of feral hogs is often seen. On some visits, the hogs themselves were seen at a distance.

“Great Park”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

I have been to the Sarasota area many times and always heard about the Park but never gone. I will go back again.
It is as if you are entering a private place for the annuals and birds that live there. A more primitive time-the river and Lake are beautiful and full of life. Close to Sunset is exquisite site.
The boat trip was great. I was with my elderly mother and she had no trouble getting on and off. The cafe was quite good for a State Park.
The Tram is NOT worth it.

“The real Old South Florida”
Reviewed December 18, 2012

A well maintained but not overly-developed place, Myakka affords a trip through what South Florida was like years ago. All kinds of wildlife and wilderness are still carefully cultivated and protected here. Get you a pass and go!
