I camped at the Youth Camp Sites with the Scouts. All of the sites were good, but some of the area had been torn up by wild bore. I personally liked site 3 as it is the most open, but all are covered by tree canopy. The bathrooms were cleaned each morning and hot water was always available. Since we were camping during Dec. it was fairly dry. I would not want to stay there during the rainy season (primarily summer time). We saw lots of wild life, but were not disturbed by any animals at night like racoons, etc. and were able to leave the coolers out. There are a number of things to do, but the park is more geared towards nature loving people. The park is big an beautiful. The staff was friendly and the price was right. We paid $10 per adult and $2 per kid for a two night stay.

I take all my visitors here during their stay in Sarasota. This is the largest State Park in FL. Upon entering the park, be sure to stop at the first bridge and view some of the largest alligators you will ever see in the wild. Other must-do's are the Bird Walk and the Canopy Walk. There is also a real neat gift shop with one of a kind items I've only seen here.

This is a must see if you are here visiting. Get up close to Gator Infested waters on the Parks Air Boat. Take a walk a top the trees on the canopy 74 ft in the air. Nature trails full of white tail deer.. Ferrell Pigs and snakes...an exciting adventure for the entire family.

We went camping at here this past weekend and it was just perfect. Our campsite was in the Old Prairie camp ground, and it was very nice. Bathrooms were impeccably clean. Too bad some people didn't take care of them as well as the employees did. (Paper towels on the floor). We went for a bike ride to the concession stand that was just great, saw lots of wild life. A dead pig, (eewww) LOTS of vultures, baby raccoons, deer, eagles, osprey and of course alligators, barred owls lull you to sleep at night. The concession stand is quite lively and has a great selection of gifts and trinkets. We didn't sample the food, but the menu seemed good. We were surprised at great variety of craft beers, ciders and wine. We didn't do the air boats ride, canoes or kayaks as it was getting late in the day. Definitely next time though. We did the canopy walk and tower, then went back to the tower at night to check out the stars and were treated to the most SPECTACULAR moon rise. We'll be back!!

We spent a couple of hours in the State Park. The canopy walkway was well worth the time. The tower is about 85 feet up with good views. The rest of the time was spent viewing wildlife and taking a few walks on the different trails they offer. They do have airboat rides which we did not do.
