Park is immaculate no question about It. The staff was very triendly. They ate so booked that i took the only site they had, number 19. It was very hard to pull on but had lots of room, close to showers which wete immaculate and very well maintained. They had fishing on the lake, the kids loved that. Here is what i did mot like and tje reason for the rating... Gnats arent bad, they are horrendous, a site with shade would have been much better. The bikes $18 dollars a day was pricey when we had it at 5pm to 9 am. The drive to destin stunk so really wouldnt have a need to come back. No doggie beaches anywhere. If you decide to go stay in the back loop or dont bother.

First trip out and it was worth the trip. Very clean and friendly. Would stay again! The beach is uncrowned and there is a tram service.

We stayed in a bungalow and were pleasantly surprised. The one bedroom bungalow was very spacious and clean, with tons of storage space. The sofa bed wasn't too bad. Make sure you bring bicycles with a cart or basket to ride to the beach--or you can rent them. Easy check in and out. Bring extra towels, paper goods, and soap (hand soap, bath soap, and dishwashing liquid. Kitchen was fairly well stocked. The beach was gorgeous, although one day there was a ton of nasty green algae due to a storm the night before. Everyone was friendly and the place was family oriented. The pool was nice and the 24 hour laundry area was in a good area. Will visit again!

Just got back from Memorial Day weekend at Topsail Beach State Preserve and it was great. Unspoiled beach with no ugly high rises or houses. The dunes are beautiful and the nature trails are great for bird watching. The beach is mainly used by those staying at the campground or cabins so, even during a busy holiday weekend it was not crowded. Though people tend to crowd instead of spreading out along the beach because they don't want to lug there stuff to far from the walkway. There is 7/10 of a mile large paved path from the campground to the beach that does not allow motorized vehicles. This path is through a wonderful palmetto forest that allows you to see what the beach area was like before all the development. My suggestion is to bring a bike with a tow behind child carrier or rent some. There are several bike rental options that deliver to the campground or you can try the campground store but, they do not take reservations. Use the child carrier to lug your stuff and child. Get one even if you don't have kids. If you don't bike you must rely on the tram system. While the tram runs every hour it starts at 9am and stops running at 7pm (sometimes 6pm). The best time to be on the beach is before 9am and at dusk.
Topsail campground has RV sites, tent sites, bungalows and cabins. It also has a pool but, we found it to small to serve all the campers.
We stayed in a bungalow that sleeps 4 for 4 nights. There are pluses and minus to the bungalows. Minuses: as stated in an earlier review the beds are rock hard, not beach front, no laundry facility within bungalow. Pluses: Price you can not beat $120 a night during Memorial Day weekend; Very clean; shaded (the cabins aren't shaded only the bungalows); large side screened porch, two sitting areas with fold out couches; one bedroom with a queen size bed; full kitchen; two bathrooms. The biggest pluses were peace and quiet, and the family atmosphere. We have stayed in plenty of beach front condos in Destin and it can be crowded and noisy not to mention expensive. Even though this campsite is not beach front and the beds are hard we will come back here again. Remember it's a state park not the Ritz and what you get in return far outweighs any negatives.

My wife & I travelled to Destin for a wedding. Trying to save $$, we decided to camp on our trip.... 6 different state parks (IL, MS, LA & FL) in 6 nights. Topsail was by FAR the best on this trip and the best of any we've ever stayed at. The campground was absolutely beautiful with all the growth and privacy. The gravel tent site was super easy to set up, even in the dark. The shower facilities were the best I've ever seen at a campground. We rode our bikes to the beach early in the morning and were stunned at the beauty of the sand dunes and the gorgeous water. We rode our bikes back to the campsite and let my son and fiancé ride to the beach and we walked the ~1/2 mile back. A lovely walk. My wife rarely likes to get in the water at the beach, but this time she kept going back over and over. We thought Sanibel was our favorite ever. But, now, Topsail is right there at the top of the list!!!! Will figure out a way to get back. I could do without all the tourist attractions in Destin. However, if/when we return, we'll simply go to Topsail and spend all our time there!!
