“Best Florida Vacation EVER!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2012

Both as a child and an adult, I've been on many beach trips to Florida over the last three decades. I'd have to say that my recent trip to Sanibel with my wife and kids was the best one yet (we arrived at the end of April and left in early May). For one, Sanibel Island is a perfect vacation spot for a family with small children (I have an 18 month old and a 4 year old). The island and beaches are quiet and low key. The beach certainly lives up to the hype...endless variety of shells, dolphins swimming close to shore, and plenty of space to spread out on the beach.

The Sanibel Arms Condominiums were perfect for our trip to Sanibel. The staff was extremely helpful, attentive, and kind throughout our stay. We were thoroughly impressed by how well kept and maintained the entire property was while we stayed. Our condo, H3, was exceptionally clean, cozy, and well decorated. H3 did not have a bathtub, but only a shower...it made things a little difficult with our 18 month old. H3 also has a dishwasher and washer/dryer right in the unit. We also had beach towels, beach chairs, and a beach umbrella in our unit which was nice. There have been several other comments on tripadvisor stating that the wi-fi is poor. My laptop picked it up great from our unit, but our building was also right next to the clubhouse which had the wireless router. Thus plan accordingly if you're in a unit further away.

We hope to visit again in the near future!

A few NOTES:
There are several grills on the premise which was great! We grilled almost every night. They also have A LOT of bikes to rent, if desired. If you rent a unit in building A, B, or C that is dock side, it is still only a short walk to the beach. The pool is very nice, but definitely on the small side. There is no outdoor hot tub on the premise. Not every unit has a private porch that is screened.

Well, we came back to Sanibel and in particular to The Sanibel Arms. It was all we wanted it to be. A well appointed, tastefully decorated condo where we enjoy greatly "the outdoor space" provided by the lanai. Pre-Dinner drinks and nibbles are a just reward after a "hard day's walking, shelling and swimming" on the adjacent Gulf Beach. This is such a relaxing and enjoyable place to be. The staff are great - extremely professional but friendly and helpful, too, and this adds to the overall experience. And guess what - we are coming back again next year!

We rented unit F6, gulf front, 1 br, 1ba condo. It was on the second floor, and we had the most beautiful view of the gulf. Sunrise was incredible, and not too too early! The place was clean, airy, light, spacious for a 1 br. Kitchen had everything you could need. Loved sitting on the balcony with my book, tea or wine and just listening to the waves. I never felt I was "wasting" time and should rush to the beach, since sitting on the balcony itself was so peaceful and lovely.

Two reasons I give a 4 rather than 5. For these prices, I think the owner should provide beach towels and better beach chairs and umbrella, instead we had to rent them. Also, wifi didn't work in the unit (it did on the balcony, tho', and there were also two computers in the clubhouse by the pool that worked fine and there was always one available when needed).

It should be noted that the balcony is shared with the unit next to it, and the screened lanai of the one on the other side, is right next to it. So, conceivably you could have noisy neighbors, etc. We ourselves were very lucky in this regard, no-one was in the unit that would have had their own screened in lanai but would have been right next to us, and a lovely older couple on other side, who often weren't on the balcony but when they were, were very nice to chat with and respected not wanting to talk, as well. But this is something to be aware of when renting, for those who want more privacy.

Still, I was very grateful to be staying there, very grateful to be on Sanibel, loved this relaxing, peaceful place and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: I think it's more than worth it to pay the extra for gulf front and for upper floor, if you can...

Stayed in H8, a 2 bedroom 2 bath 2nd floor condo on the beach side. We were only two people but this would be perfect for a family of four - one bedroom has a king and the other has 2 twins. Nice kitchen, open dining and living room, and a gorgeous lanai, screened in with light and fan. Could even see a slide of the gulf! When we walked in, smelled super clean and the place really was spotless. Also has a dishwasher and washer/dryer right in the unit. Beach is great, pool is great, island is quiet, and we felt right at home. The staff was super nice and helpful. We will definitely come back.

For the money we paid for this property, which advertises "high speed internet", we were VERY disappointed at just how bad the internet connection was.

This facility is not adapting to what's what today. Repeatedly, we emailed prior to our trip, as to the availability of high speed internet and we were assurred same was there. IT IS NOT. Why the big deal about internet you say?

Yes, even on holiday, we like to wind down after a day of activity and watch Netflix or HuluPlus or HBO-GO or even use/access our good ole slingbox back at our home....all through our laptops and a good internet connection. We connect the laptops to the televisions in the hotel room we're in and BOOM!...we're watching our own DVR back at home. However, we need a highspeed internet connection to do this common, everyday modern travel stuff: The stronger and faster, the better. Heck, even a dinky little 1meg down signal will suffice. Guess what? At this joint, using http://www.speedtest.net as a reference point, we weren't getting much more speed than an old time dial up modem! Incredible.

Also, the rooms don't have modern flat screen televisions or high definition.

For the kind of money this place charges, we don't understand why there is not modern interenet. We were promised high speed internet and they failed to deliver it. Had an attitude about it, too, when we asked!

If you use a laptop whilst on holiday connecting to the internet, rule this operation OUT.

Room Tip: For internet wi-fi purposes, there aren't any "good rooms"!

We booked a one bedroom condo D6 last minute after visting family in Naples, Fl. The condo was newly updated, and well equipped. Close walk to the beach. The front desk staff was very helpful. We also liked that we could rent bikes on the property. Well kept grounds, nice pool, small complex. Would definitely stay here again.

We were pleasantly surprised with our 1 bedroom condo at Sanibel Arms. The staff was friendly, the location is great (right on the beach), the price was reasonable, the pool was warm, and the condo was perfect for travelers on a budget.
