We really loved this restaurant. The menu was varied and different. The small plate selections enabled us to share and experience several great dishes,We ordered the baby spinach salad, pork belly and clams, fish stew and the Tuna..The desert plate came out with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate The end to a perfect dinner. We felt very comfortable and were never rushed through any course.

Excellent food and service. Love the half portions. 4-6 oz. vs 8-10 oz. Great atmosphere!! Specials are always special and creative.

My daughter and i had an excellent dinner here over Labor Day Weekend. The atmosphere is low key and lovely. Our waiter was personable and helpful, but most importantly our food was superb. The guitar player that made for the wonderful ambience was a great touch.

My wife and I were in Sanibel for our wedding. We chose Sweet Melissa's because we saw that she had won awards for the best restaurant in Lee County (I think).
First off, the service was great. Our server was originally from the area that we are from and she was so friendly. She also was very good at explaining what the dishes were and answering all of our questions.
Second, the food was absolutely out of this world. And we loved the fact that just about everything is available in petite portions so that you can make a 3 or 4 course meal. We started out with the cheese plate and a beet salad. The bread that came with the cheese plate was fantastic, as well as the dishes themselves. We then had an order of fettuccine carbonara and pork belly and clams. The pork belly and clams was my favorite dish of the night. The broth that it comes in was spectacular. Our main dishes were scallops and the Redfish special. So good! The desserts were impressive as well. I would order any dish without hesitation.
Last, all that food was way under what we had expected. Looking at the bill at the end of the night, we had to double and triple check it:).
Our next trip back, Sweet Melissa's will definitely be our first stop. Thanks to the staff and chefs for such a great restaurant with delicious food and people. We wish we could take it all home with us.

Four of us enjoyed dinner at Sweet Melissa's last week. Because it is on Sanibel (which is way too busy during season for us locals!) we decided to enjoy the end of summer at Sweet Melissa's. It wasn't our first time there, but it was time for us to go back again. One of us managed to sample four different fish dishes! We started with five different appetizers: arugula salad with anchovy vinaigrette dressing; frog legs; rabbit pate; goat cheese crepe; and a yellowtail special. We passed and shared and enjoyed every bite. (Well, I didn't care for the anchovy dressing, but everyone else did!) The entrees were just as delicious. Oven roasted cobia, a redfish special, grilled tuna, and my personal favorite, seared duck breast with duck confit, creamy banana lentils (yes, banana!!), and an arugula walnut pesto. One of the special things about Melissa's is that you can order any of the entrees in a "petite" size, which is small enough for those watching their intake to feel comfortable cleaning their plates. The price is petite, too! We enjoyed a couple of bottles of excellent wine that went well with all of our choices, and finished by sharing Key Lime Parfait and and a special caramel dessert. I indulged in a grasshopper for my own treat, while my son had a nice neat scotch.
The service was impeccable all evening. Our server, Kelsey, was attentive without hovering, brought each course timely without rushing us, and was fun, too! We experienced "fine dining, not fast dining," as they say at Sweet Melissa's.
Make a reservation, no matter what time of year you go, because it's a very popular restaurant on the island. Even those of us who live locally make a point of going there at least a few times a year, to see what Chef Melissa (yes, she's the chef!) has cooked up. The website is www.sweetmelissascafe.com and you can see the current menu for lunch or dinner there. Don't miss the sweetness of Sweet Melissa's.
