We love staying at Mitchell's because life truly feels calm here. Everything you need is at your disposal...good bikes, pools, kayaks, even laundry facilities. Vacationers here are kindred spirits, enjoying the quiet beauty of an uncrowded beach. The staff is friendly and helpful. Thank you, Mitchell's Sandcastles for a wonderful stay.

We absolutely loved staying here at Mitchell's Sandcastles. It has a friendly relaxed atmosphere. A really great place for families with young children. The cottages are right on the beach, and set back from the road. The grounds have lovely tropical plants and palm trees that supply just the right amount of shade between the cottages and around the pool. It is also very nice feature to have beach chairs, umbrellas, and bicycles available without extra charge. They also have ocean kyaks.
Our only problem was that we were in one of the smallest places and did not have a full kitchen, however we expected that and it was a small inconvenience. We do not like to eat out every meal.
That being said we really loved it there and already booked next year in a larger cottage.
Last thing is the beds. Really comfortable with what I think was memory foam. The pillows however were not nice so if you are driving to Florida I suggest you bring your own pillow.

Room Tip: They are all nice and we found the whole place to be quiet in the evening for relaxed sleeping.

Love, love, love this place. Very quiet and clean. Away from crowds. We will definitely return next year. We have been to Sanibel many times but this is our first visit to Mitchell's. Great place to stay with your dog.

This resort is exactly as described and pictured. Cottages are a throwback to old Florida style and a short stroll to the beach. They are very clean, decently equipped and generally comfortable. The 2 pools are typically quiet even when all of the cottages are occupied and often you are the only ones there- very clean and great pool toys for our 3 year old. It was great to have ready access to free cruiser bikes with a kid's seat and helmets. We rode our bikes through the nature preserve- easy 8 mile round trip and to the main road, Periwinkle, which has most of the restaurants and shops and a great playground. The beach chairs and umbrellas were great as well. The beach in front of Mitchell's goes on forever and had huge mounds of shells when we were there in early April. Mitchell's is on a dead end portion of West Gulf Drive and this is a huge bonus- virtually no traffic and a great place to start a morning run.

Don't miss out on heading over to Captiva- it is super cute and has a different vibe. We also went over to Naples for a day to visit friends and then down to Everglade City for an airboat ride. I am not huge into tours, but this ride was fascinating- really some good "redneck" fun. We didn't see alligators on the airboat tour as the Everglades are typically low on water in April, but we stopped at a nature trail and did a nice little walk where we saw lots of wildlife including gators.

I would say that the food is not great on Sanibel so we decided to cook in and eat on our deck almost every meal- which was great. We used the provided grill quite a bit. Went to Bailey's and Jerry's for groceries and I really loved Jerry's- great products including baked goods and more exotic ingredients and sandwiches (and rescued exotic birds in the court yard which completely mesmerized our daughter).

Sanibel was the perfect vacation for us and our 3 year old. The ocean is calm and mellow, there are great bike paths and Mitchell's is convenient, campy and laidback with really good amenities. Book early and get #1, #2, #9, #10 or Sea Star- those seemed to be the best choices for view, super easy access to the beach and for nice decks.

Can't say enough nice things about the place. They provide bikes, kayaks, beach chairs and umbrellas without additional charges. Even when we needed extras for company. Fantastic location, lots of shells ." business office" for visitors so I was able to print out our boarding passes. Cant wait to go back!!!

Room Tip: We had the smallest room , ample space for 2.

From start to finish Joel and his wife Kim go out of their way to make your stay fantastic in this little piece of paradise. The cottages are the best thing for a laid back island...I hate multilevels at the beach. The couple are completely hands on, so every need is personally taken care of, including helping us with our wedding plans.

This place was perfect for us. We are a family of four, our kids are small, and we just wanted a house to rent, but with amenities. We enjoyed Unit #10. Right on the beach - beautiful view, you could hear the surf from the room. Walk to the beach. Walk to the pool, which we had to ourselves literally every day. Right next to the tennis court. While packing I had called to ask Joel a question about bike helmets and when we arrived, voila, the appropriate bikes (and helmets and locks!) we waiting for us under the house, in great condition and ready to use! I was surprised and happy. Our son has food allergies, so I appreciated that the fridge and kitchen were CLEAN. Uncluttered and clean. It was a huge bonus to have washer and dryer in the unit (#10). I wasn't expecting that because I know there are laundry facilities on site. My kids LOVED that there were pool toys. I loved that there were beach chairs, umbrellas, and beach toys for them to use. Going from here to a Marriott in Orlando, which caters to your every need, requiring constant tipping, no privacy, and charges you for everything, including wi-fi which was free at Mitchell's, I far prefer having "our own place" instead of shedding $ every time we want to do anything. BRING YOUR OWN BEACH TOWELS - at this time they are NOT provided. This was not an issue for me because I read it on here before and we had the washer/dryer. However, if you forget, you could get some inexpensively in Sanibel. Really not a big deal. I think it would be pretty hard to keep up with sandy, gross towels at such a small place. Don't come here if you are wanting to be pampered. If you need something you have to ask, which I prefer, instead of having people offering things constantly. This is a place where you come because you want to go on a great Sanibel vacation and have some privacy/independence!

Room Tip: I loved #10 for privacy. Furthest from everything and very close to pool, beach, tennis. I didn...
