We stayed in a 1 bedroom cottage at Tropical Winds in Oct 2011 - the best thing about Tropical Winds is the location! It's in a residential area of Sanibel (like most of Sanibel) and it's just a short walk to the beach from the cottages. There was hardly anyone else on the beach which was wonderful for walking our dogs on the beach. The shelling was fantastic! The cottage itself needed some updating though - no central air conditioning, only window units which would be fine if the windows would open but 1/2 of the windows were broken and wouldn't open. Also the AC in the bedroom didn't work very well. The kitchen was TINY, the WiFi didn't work, there was not a remote control for the TV. We spent most of our time outside so these things didn't affect us that much. We LOVE Sanibel Island and the cottages could be great with a little updating.

Amazing place. Staying in a quaint studio on the beach. Only about 200' from the water and millions of seashells right at your doorstep (literally). Friendly service, beach chairs, umbrellas, kitchenette, queen size bed, small bathroom. Comes with a few bowls, cups, coffee maker, stove (no oven), refrigerator, sink, breakfast table and 2 chairs. Very nice place, clean, well-kept. It's everything you'd want from a getaway on the beautiful Sanibel beach. The sunset is straight out towards the beach from your doorstep so you don't have to travel anywhere to watch it. My only problem was our bed dipped in the middle so it was sloped, and the shower was about 2' x 2' (room #5), but the bathroom size overall was fine.

Room Tip: Get one of the studios or cottages on the beach side, not across the road. Perfect for couples!

A friend and I stayed here in Nov 2011 and were very pleased with the accomodations as well as the staff. Isaac was very welcoming, accomodating and made our brief stay just perfect. We stayed in a one bedroom cottage just across the street from the beach in a very nice neighborhood that was centrally located to everything on the island. The cottage was very clean and comfortable.

This is a quiet, residential, old Florida location. What some people think is tired, another may call charming. The accomodations are not new. That is what adds to it's charm. They are old-style bungalows close to the beach. You cannot find this anywhere else in Sanibel. Yes, there are sand fleas. There are sand fleas EVERYWHERE in Sanibel. It is a natural part of the area. They have nothing to do with Tropical Winds. I buy wrist/ankle bands at Sports World and they work great. Do not stay here if you want a modern resort. This place is it's own little piece of Paradise.

Room Tip: Although most expensive, Unit #10 is the best!!!

Our stay at Tropical Winds was a pure joy. The accommodations, while not luxury, were very comfortable and clean providing a relaxing stay. The small kitchen came in handy for breakfast and preparing lunches before heading back to the beach. We stayed in the unit farthest from the beach, quiet and did not mind the short walk to beach. The beach was great and shelling excellant. We were surprized on how uncrowded it was even over a holiday weekend. Saw many great sunsets and look forward to staying again.

Room Tip: Cottage farthest from beach quiet and no foot traffic going by.

I was a little disappointed with the accommodation, as it had such good reviews on Trip Advisor. It was a lovely location, right by the beach - although this was marred by terrible sand fleas. Our cottage was not as clean as I would have expected, although it was well equipped. The beds were very soft but a bit sandy! the whole place looked a bit tired and in need of a facelift. The lady at reception was very friendly.

Tropical Winds is a lovely place. I don't understand why the cottages were called tiny. We toured 2 of the cottages to see about coming back next year with another couple. We saw a 1 bedroom that had a large living room/dining room with pull out sleeper sofa, kitchen and large bedroom with 2 double beds and large closet. The bathroom had a full tub and the 2 bedroom we saw was double the size with 2 full bedrooms and 2 full baths. The cottages and our beach unit #7 had a private porch with patio furniture. The beach feels like a private paradise, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff is as friendly as I've ever seen. They had everything ready when we arrived, they even supplied beach chairs and umbrella's! We will definitely be back again and again!!

Room Tip: The beach unit #10 is closest to the private beach path.
