My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on the island of Sanibel and in our villa at Beach Road Villas. The touches of service were nice to walk into to: binder with info, extra towels, clean and tidy equipment.
The Villas are situated in a great location as we didn't have to travel far once over the Causeway bridge. We spent our first (hazy) day on the cruiser bikes available to guests and finally found ourselves, three hours later, at the Island Cow for a lunch of fish tacos! The sun broke and we biked back to the villas to pack up stuff for the beach. We loved how close the beach was, and the walk along the shell-lined pathway was nothing short of picturesque. Beware of the tiny flea-like noseeum bugs. I remember being eaten alive by them the only other time I was in Sanibel, and they got us our first evening while visiting the beach! Bring bug spray and use it after dark.
We made most of our meals at the villa, utilizing the outdoor grill and our screened patio that looked out to the canal. One morning, while eating breakfast, we saw two manatees playing in the canal in front of us! Although we did MOST of the cooking at the villa, we did venture out for Happy Hour at the Jacaranda, just around the corner. It was awesome! We enjoyed great margaritas and two rounds of steamed crab legs, along with peel-n-eat shrimp and mussels. Needless to say we didn't need dinner, and, in fact, returned for live music that night.
We shelled at the beach right before the Sanibel/Captiva bridge and had so much fun finding treasures! Once back at the villa we were able to identify many of the shells we found since we had been slowly constructing the shell puzzle in the game cabinet!! Great to have!
I can't say enough about our time in Sanibel and the property. It was the perfect antidote for the winter months spent cooped up in the Northeast!
