“Change to traditional island cuisine”

Description: Fresh Taqueria has an eclectic menu that fuses Mexican Spanish and Southern cuisines. Our menu changes frequently depending upon what is available from local farms. We offer many gluten free and vegetarian options on our menu. Our food is prepared fresh daily sourced from local and sustainable sources. We are located in the red building across from suntrust on Periwinkle Way. Our parking lot is the third driveway west of the restaurant (the empty lot with our sign out front).

“Change to traditional island cuisine”
Reviewed March 2, 2013 via mobile

We went here hoping to find an exciting new eatery on the islands that differed from standard island food. We definitely found it, but with all its potential, it disappoints. The decor is eclectic and modern and the menu is not something you'll see elsewhere on Sanibel. Portions are overpriced at 3.50 a taco for flavours that are fairly average (though unique and modern). Their craft beer selection is interesting and the aficionado will quite enjoy their offerings. Overall, this wasn't for us and failed to meet my hopeful expectations.

“Great food, needs better management”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

Wow! Couldn't ask for more fresh, delicious, priced right food on Sanibel! Portion sizes were just right, the margaritas were fantastic, the guacomole served with homemade tortilla chips was out of this world! I would love to say when we go back to Sanibel in three years we would go again--however, the level of efficiency and actual business side of the restaurant make me think it will not make it. Our waitress, the only one for about 10 tables, was super friendly and hard working, but she needed more help. A dedicated busser to clear dishes, refill water, and help serve food is a must! The owner "helped" but she only carried one or two things from the distant kitchen out to the dining room and then didn't take anything back with her to help clear tables. The gift shop had many interesting items, but very little had a price tag so we had to chase down the owner to find out how much an awesome piece of jewelry was (both in uniqueness and affordability). My 11 year old walked out saying "That food was sooo good---I think some of the best we've had, but they really need a visit from a show like Restaurant Impossible!" Excellent summation!

Very tasty Mexican food in reasonable portions. Enjoyed lunch very much. Very simple but that is the way we like it. We will be back.

“Fresh and new”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

We were impressed! We've dined here twice and will be back very soon. The food is FRESH - some herbs and vegetables are growing outside in containers. There are many creative choices on the menu. We tried the butternut, kale, and pumpkin seed taco and loved it. Also, spicy shrimp tacos, buttermilk chicken tacos, guacamole and homemade chips, corn on the cob, salads, black beans, and warm southern greens - all delicious. Fresh Taqueria is wonderful new addition to the Sanibel restaurant scene because there is nothing like it on the island. We highly recommend Fresh Taqueria!

“A new favorite on Sanibel”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

Wife and I walked over to Fresh Taqueria after a matinee at Island Cinema. Had read mixed reviews here on TA, but I was SO HAPPY TO HAVE A DINING OPTION other than another usual Sanibel spot.
Very charming little spot, nice beer/cocktail list. Extremely charming and efficient hostess/server. Interesting Tapas choices, including a wonderful ceviche and the manchego stuffed dates. A couple of Tacos Pescado and a Plato de arroz later, we were happily filled, (but not stuffed - a plus for tapas style eating), and we were out the door for $50, including a craft beer.
Not exactly sure what some folks are used to paying for quality tapas, but Fresh Taqueria is MORE than reasonable, and oh so much nicer than paying $30 per entree at a mediocre seafood place on island.
Fresh Taqueria has quickly vaulted up the ladder of favorite Sanibel dining options.
