You have no choice but to use the causeway if you are going to Sanibel Island. There is a $6.00 toll that ;you pay ONLY when going on to the island.

A bit of a pricey toll but the cost is quickly forgotten as the drive hops from land to bridge to island to bridge.....and so on.

Not quite the Florida Keys experience but an excellent single island experience.

The transition from land-bound Ft. Myers to the tropical Sanibel Island is a beautiful program to get away from it all and remove yourself from the realities of normal life.

OK. Fine. The Bridge is $6.00 a shot. Get Past It ! It goes to Sanibel and Captiva Islands. The view from the top is breath-taking and as you go from island to island on the causeway, you can stop and fish or bird watch or dolphin watch too. The birds stand by the fishermen. If you catch something, they will come up to you as if to ask,"Are you using that fish or are yo going to throw it back?" If you answer the latter, the bird will say something like,"may I have that fish if you would be so kind?"...just count you fingers.

Due to the tides most of the traffic was coming out instead of going in so we had no problems getting on the island. Definitely check the low tides so you can avoid coming on the island during the busy times. The toll is $6 so be prepared bit well worth it especially if you are staying in the island.
