there's plenty of unplanned stops one can make. keep an eye out for what interests you! my favorites were Baileys and anywhere that served oysters on the half shell.

Spending 5 months in South Ft. Myers affords me to be on the causeway every day if I choose. It is as close to heaven as I have found to date.

Bridge is new and in good condition. Still like to stop and lounge on the beach half way across the causeway and view the water.

This is a free place to park which is one of the best things it got going. It does take $6.00 to go on and over the bridges. Fishing is good but not great. You can launch a small boat or PWC. It has bathrooms on the middle span and plenty of places to park. They have grills set up to cook with or bring your own. One of the hot spots for July 4th fireworks. The only negative is don't expect a sandy beach and sandy bottom water to go out in, it has a little but mostly hard, stoney or weedy bottom.

Right when you start traveling towards Sanibel, the view is spectacular. Blue water everywhere and beaches all over. It costs a lil money to cross, but it's well worth it. You can stop on the causeway to enjoy the beaches and scenery. Collecting shells is easy here too.
