The beach is well used by all and there is room to do what you want. The only thing I disliked was the lack of good shelling but that is due to plenty of people and time of day.

The beach is made primarily of crushed sea shells. The shelling was disappointing this trip, but has been fantastic in the pass. I even found a junonia a few years ago and had my picture in the local newspaper. The sunsets can be absolutely breathtaking, especially if there are a few clouds. Makes for a romantic evening. Bring a bottle of wine and two glasses!

We recently vacationed on Sanibel for the first time in early Sept and are so disappointed with the whole place. The first hour on the beach we were eaten alive by sand fleas called "no-see-ums" and itched horribly the rest of our vacation. All the information we read certainly down plays this nasty fact of life.
Secondly it was so hot and humid with no Gulf breeze it was too uncomfortable on the beach. We couldn't even sit on our lanai at night because of the heat & humidity. You sweat just sitting there! Not fun!
And every single PUBLIC beach, you had to pay $2/hour! That is a little much! The prices on the island everywhere are ridiculously high for everything and then to have to pay to get on a PUBLIC beach. There are so many other places to get on public beaches without paying a cent.
I know we are in the minority in not liking Sanibel, but we would definitely NOT recommend vacationing here.

We went here two afternoons in a row. This is by far our best shelling from the trip. We would get out in the water about knee deep and catch the shells as they rolled back out to sea. There are no bathroom facilities nor places to wash your feet.
