“Nice relaxing apartments”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2014

This is a nice local resort with a nice and quiet swimming pool. There are barbeque grills in the back of the pool - kept very well.
Good location to reach other areas of the island.
Mattress was not good in our room.
Friendly staff.

Room Tip: Not all rooms of the same quality. It is advisable to actually see the room.

We booked unit #36 only a few weeks before going on our vacation, we were lucky to get it due to a last minute cancellation. The pictures of the unit on vrbo.com are true to what the unit really looks like. Great living/dining areas and ample sized bedrooms nicely decorated in beachy themes. The main bathroom could use an update but it was clean and had nice fresh towels. The kitchen is small but has everything you could need to feel at home to make meals. The screened in balcony was great to sit in and drink your morning coffee watching the birds fly by. Also love the fact that the owner has a cart with a beach umbrella, lots of beach chairs, toys and shell nets to wheel down to the beach. Came in so handy....there is also a nice cooler to take down or bring with you when you go grocery shopping to keep things cold until you get back. The unit was comfortable and suited our needs, by mid week we felt right at home. The unit is close to the tennis courts and only a 3 minute walk to the office and pool area. The pool is so nice, salt water and heated. It was a great way to relax after a long walk on the beach or go for a quick swim before dinner. Behind the office is the BBQ area with 2 nice Weber bbq's. One was tempermental but I think the issue got dealt with. It was nice to do some grilling, go early to avoid a line, one night there was a line up of 4 people wanting to grill and only one bbq was working. The bbq's are kept in perfect condition, they looked brand new. The office has a ample laundry room and guest bathrooms as well as several local attraction brochures, papers, etc and the computer and printer came in handy to check-in for our return flight before hand and print our boarding passes.
The staff at Sea Shells are amazing, so warm, friendly and super helpful, they went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and help us in any way they could. A lot of residence that live at Sea Shells at least half the year are also great resources for things to see and do and it is so wonderful to talk to people from all over the world!
Lastly the beach...it took asking a few people to figure out where the path to the beach was. It's about a 8-10 minute walk away across the street and through a shady nice path between two other condo units. The beach is well worth the walk, great to go first things in the morning when the sun rises and check out the shells that have washed up. Also you are almost guaranteed to see dolphins fairly close to shore, one came right up almost onto the beach on my first morning, amazing to see. Only downfall is having to walk all the way back to go to the bathroom but worth the sacrafice.
Overall this is a wonderful property, in a very desirable area, short driving distance to shops, restaurants and the grocery stores on Periwinkle Way. Great bike paths too all over to use, although never got to rent a bike on this trip but will be next time I'm down on Sanibel next.

I have stayed at Unit #21 four times now and every year something new is done to enhance the beauty and comfort of this lovely two bedroom condo. Every thing you need is provided-games, beach towels, cart, chairs, all kitchen utensils, bath towels, etc. It is on the second floor next to the pool/office location, no elevator however. For those who enjoy nature and a breath of fresh air, I highly recommend Unit #21 at Sea Shells of Sanibel.

Room Tip: Unit #21 is superb!

. We loved it! We stayed in unit 30. Seashells of Sanibel is very well kept, clean, quiet and has all the amenities you need for a wonderful beach vacation. The unit had beach chairs, umbrellas, beach toys, beach towels. The bedrooms are comfortable and well appointed and felt like home away from home! The location is great easy to get to Captiva and anywhere else on the island. The grounds are always beautiful and maintained. There really wasn't anything we didn't like! We will be back again and again!!

Sea Shells is a lovely, quiet little complex. We have stayed here five times. It's a good value, especially in the off season.
One important thing to know is that all the units are individually owned. The upgrades and amenities can vary a LOT, depending on which unit you select. Some units are definitely tired and need upgrading. When choosing your unit, be careful to examine the photos and the descriptions. Also, the higher the unit number, the further your walk to the beach will be. Look at the map before you book.
We stayed in Unit 1, which has been recently remodeled and is absolutely beautiful. Granite countertops, tall maple kitchen cabinets, stainless applianced, hurricane windows, and great bathrooms. This unit is closest to to the beach, which is a short walk to the beach access path.
The pool is very nice, there is on-site laundry, and there are communal gas grills.
Overall, if you want a nice place to stay that is budget friendly, this is it!

Room Tip: Do your homework before you book a unit here.

We stayed 3 nights in Unit 17 (one of the few spots on Sanibel that didn't require a week stay...very appreciative of Mark, the out of state owner, who also gave us excellent tips and pointers for our stay!). The unit had a nice layout (a bit dated, but oh well...we were not in the unit much anyway). The price for the unit was quite reasonable, especially when split between two couples for the 2 bedroom/2 bath. The location was ideal. The walk to the beach was short, and it s a lovely beach with nice shells. Quiet, too. Just remember, Florida has LOTS of little lizards. Be ready to see a bunch:)

Room Tip: Unit 17 is about in the middle of the small complex, somewhat close to the pool.

Just returned from a 5 night stay in Unit #5 at Sea Shells. We booked through the owner on Home Away, but it seems you can also book through Sea Shells directly. I agree with all the other positive comments others have listed. This development is in a very nice area and while not beach front, it is across the street (West Gulf Drive - very low traffic street) and about 3 driveways up to get to the beach access. It is a short walk, but I believe this is the exchange for the reasonable rates they charge. They have on site bike rentals which we used one day ($10 for 4 hrs) and they offer everything from daily to weekly rates as well. This was very convenient. The island has awesome bike paths and we traveled all the way to the Lighthouse and back (4.1 miles each way), and it was a very nice trip.

The unit does come with the 'starter pack' that others mentioned, which was nice. Some rental units you tend to find a lot of items left from previous renters like aluminum foil, spices, etc. This was not the case here, so primarily what you are told is the starter kit is about what you should expect to find when you arrive. Unit is nicely stocked with all the appliance, cookware, etc to make your stay very enjoyable. Also, all bedding and towels are included. Unit #5 has a washer/dryer inside master bedroom and available for use.

Each unit appears to have a 'beach stroller' which was SO helpful to load the chairs/cooler/backpacks into and wheel to the beach. Not sure about every unit, but this one had 6 beach chairs, a cooler, beach umbrella, beach toys and also a stroller and portable playpen if you have children.

We loved it, and would recommend this facility to others.

HINT: The lower the unit number is, the closer to the street (and beach) you are. Higher unit numbers will require a walk through the parking lot before you head to the beach. Not a big deal, but good to know.

HINT 2: We did our shopping at Publix in Ft. Myers before coming over the bridge. There are a couple of grocery stores on the island, but you will pay 'island' prices for shopping there. If you want to save a few dollars, make your list in advance and pick up your food before paying that $6 toll onto Sanibel.

Room Tip: Highly recommend renting Unit#5. Nicely decorated and very comfortable.
