I found West-End Paradise on the Sanibel Chamber of Commerce website.
It is listed under Small Inn or Cottage. Sometimes a blind booking on the basis of an Internet site can be a bad surprise upon arrival. My initial misgivings were allayed by a short telephone conversation with Jennifer, one of the owners. She was extremely friendly and professional. When we arrived, we found that the reality of our accomodations (a two bedroom unit) exceeded the website photos. The rooms, and grounds, were extremely clean and well maintained. The rooms were nicely decorated, and everything needed for a relaxed stay was available (including complimentary laundry facilities and bicycles). The beautiful beach (which stretched for miles), was less than a block away. The neighborhood was exteremely quiet, which is an advantage of the mid-island location. A few hundred yards in the other direction was the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, which (deservedly) has a national reputation as a place to observe the wildlife and habitats of Southweastern Florida. Jennifer and Darwin proved to be gracious and thoughtful hosts. The rates were very reasonable for the area. We had a wonderful vacation, and intend to return whenever we can.

We just got back from a long weekend at the West-End Paradise. The inn is exactly as represented. Nice walk to a very private beach. The rooms are cute and very clean. The owners are helpful and friendly. Located in a quiet residential area and the price is right.

It is hard to say something that hasn't already been said in previous reviews. This place was great!

My wife and I stayed at the West End Paradise at the end of February to celebrate our first anniversary. We were arriving around 10pm and Jennifer and Darwin easily accommodated our late arrival and made our entire weekend very pleasant. The room was spotless and the property looked great, which is saying something considering the beating that the area took from Hurricane Charley which was still evident in many places around the island. But you wouldn't know it at the West-End! Being about 4 miles from the town of Sanibel, the nights were quiet, the traffic was minimal, the beach was nearby and not crowded. We had no complaints, and the next time we go to Sanibel, the West-End Paradise will be at the top of our list! We just hope that we're able to get reservations!

My wife and I stayed at the West-End Paradise for 3 days in early March 2004. It was her birthday, she loves shell hunting, and, we wanted a brief get-away from our young children. To emphasize my 5-star rating it should be noted that the street during that time was in complete upheaval as a new sewer/water line system was being installed. Our first impression upon arrival was scary to say the least. However, the spotless, tidy, comfortable room and Jennifer's super personality put us at ease fairly instantly. By the time we'd been there a day and had a chance to walk the block-distance down to the beach, we were convinced we'd discovered its namesake. For the remainder of our stay the road situation was virtually forgotten (even if was still that way, I'd still go out of my way to stay there). The proximity of the beach, the quietness in the evening, the cleanliness, its location away from the bustle, the owners; all combined to create an experience we must repeat. The place is as ideal for a romantic get-away as it will be to include our children. We can't wait to show them. I hesitate to write this review because I don't want it to be impossible to secure a reservation in the future. That's how special the place seemed.

We love small inns and hotels. And, this place is right up there as one of our favorite places. The hosts were wonderful. They are so excited to be fufilling a life long dream - they were great and proactive in making sure our stay was perfect. The bikes were clean, new and ready to go. Everything was sparkling clean. They had a great selection of books in the room. All and All I would highly reccomend this place.
We hope to go back next year.

My future husband and I have been to Sanidbel and Captiva Islands several times over the years and it was only when we found the West-End Paradise that we truly felt "at home". Jennifer and Darwin go overerboard to make EVERYONE feel welcome.
With regard to "Never Again's" posting, The West-End Paradise is a gem in a world of chain hotels and highrises. A trailer full of canoes may not be a problem for a chain/highrise hotel with a large parking lot, but the West-End Paradise is not a chain/highrise hotel. THAT'S WHY WE LOVE IT!!!
In the future, a little common sense might tell you that a Motel 6 out near the interstate would be more to your liking.
In the meantime, the West-End Paradise is exactly where we will be for as long as Jennifer and Darwin are there to make us and everyone else feel welcome.

My family and I have had the privilege of spending time on Sanibel every year for the last 26 years. In those years we have stayed at a number of different establishments.
Three years ago we found the West End Paradise. It was under different ownership then and while the facilities were good, the hosts left much to be desired.
The next year we found Jennifer and Darwin had taken over and what a difference. The work they put into cleaning up and decorating is obvious. The new big fluffy beach towels and bikes are indications of how they pay attention to details and react to guest comments and suggestions. During our stay, they were constantly making improvements to the property.
I can truly say that in all our years we have not had accommodations as nice nor hosts as gracious as Jennifer and Darwin. I have recommended West End Paradise to friends and acquaintances. When they ask why, I tell them of the wonderful area, the beautiful and clean apartments, the excellent beach (with free parking) but most of all about Jennifer and Darwin; for their efforts to accommodate their guests is "The Icing On The Cake".
Thanks Jennifer and Darwin. We will be back.
