“Perfect for Sunset viewing”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

Perfect for sunset viewing but there is a bit of a hike to the water. Make sure you arrive in plenty of time to see the sunset.

Beautiful pristine beach, very private, shells like little gems. Clean bathrooms, warm water, goes on for miles.

“GREAT EXPECTATION FAILED”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

I visited Sanibel Island with great expectation: since my first trip to Florida I wished to see the white beaches full of shells... Endless my family and I got there last summer. I told them about the variety of shells they could have found on the shore, the quiet atmosphere of the island...We arrived by car on the island passing through bridges and paying about $6 or 7 to be on it. We stopped at the Sanibel Tourist Office to be sure to do the wright thing: a hurried lady showed us a map of the island marking the public beaches. She told us about "toll-parking-lot" .
We began to drive to Bowman's Beach - described us as the most beautiful beach on the island. We made a tour of the island without find a single parking lot; plus on the way we could not even see the panorama of the shores: tropical trees fences and hedges covered villas and nice houses (we thought they were!); there where no way to see anything apart some little spots and car-parking lots full of cars.... There were no way to park anywhere! It was almost noon of a day-of-the-week and the island was full of tourists.. we also crossed to Captiva Island, hoping to find less people and more quiet places... NONE of these expectations, too!! Endless we returned to Sanibel and find a bigger car parking lot nearby Bowmans' beach and we stayed there for 3 hours, paying $2 per/hour. There were a sunny way to the beach with some showers and restrooms, the beach was wide but narrow.. "sticky" crowded, the sea was not so fine, water not so clear. And what about the shells? The famous shells of Sanibel? There were a narrow "strip" of common shells just on the foreshore... so disappointing...so unsatisfying... We picked up much more shells on the beach close to the place we stayed in Bonita rather than in Sanibel.
So: an expensive trip for having payed for nothing: to enter, to hardly park for what? We could not see anything on the island but gates, "private property" panels and planted tropical trees.. it that "beautiful Sanibel"?

“Great beach for swimming and shelling”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

We spent an afternoon at Bowman's beach, definitely one of the nicest beaches for swimming, the water was very clear, and there were an abundance of shells that hadn't been picked over, as it is not a very busy beach. The parking is expensive, and there is about a 10 minute walk to the beach from the parking lot. I would definitely return to this beach the next time we visit Sanibel.

“Heaven on Earth”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

We love Bowman's Beach. This was our second visit - we were there also in 2011. Our accommodation faced right onto the Beach, so we were blessed with a view of the magnificent sunrises and sunsets every day of the week we spent there. Seabirds gather along the water's edge to feed - we saw fish jumping from the water many times. Dolphins can be seen swimming not too far from shore. Water is warm and welcoming. Millions of beautiful seashells. Soft but firm white sand is ideal for long, leisurely walks. Not crowded in September, so a fabulous place to completely chill out.
