Sandpiper Beach
Reviewed December 30, 2011

We've been going to Sanibel on and off for the last 25 years and have always tended to stay on West Gulf Drive. This year we had a change plan and came across Sandpiper Beach. We stay in unit 506 and it was fantastic. We had sun all day due to its location, waking up with the sun in the morning and losing it off the lanai late in the afternoon. The unit was big and well fitted out. The owners allowed use of their bikes too which was a great way to see bits of the Island that you usually drive right by. Their generosity saved us $$ too! The pool is heated and gets the sun all day. The beach is great just outside the condos too. Free wifi through the association. I cant think what I would change other than our depature dates, could have stayed another week!

Sandpiper Beach has a Middle Gulf location, off a very private dead end street, next to one of the Island Preserves.
A small complex, with only 27 units that are spread out in a design that affords great views of the Gulf from a large lanai. All the views are direct, stunning!
Unit #303, one of the best values of any property we have reserved in 9 consecutive years of visits to this beautiful, restful Island.
This 2-bedroom condo, single floor, has all provision(less food) for a very comfortable stay. Furnishings, basic, but generous in comfort.
Bikes are provided(#303), which saves a substantial amount over rental. Also provided are beach chairs, floats. I recommend the rental of a beach umbrella from Finnimore's Bike Shop(superior service/quality rentals)...an umbrella design that is wide and has proper anchor.
This entire Complex is spotless, landscaped to perfection by caring, professional employees.
Over 9 years, no complaints about any of the beachfront properties we have visited, but for price, location, features, this is worth a look for a Saturday to Saturday stay...very high recommendation, specifically #303.
A return reservation has been placed...it's like going home.

We have stayed here 6 of the last 11 years and have always enjoyed the stay. The units are always clean and the interiors are modern. They are 1200 square feet with 1 king, 2 twins and a murphy and 2 baths, a full kitchen, W/d, dining table, screened balcony In our unit we have access to bikes which we use to go to all our eating and shopping. The pool is always very well maintained. The grounds are also very well kept. You can see and hear the ocean from the unit but it is about a 100 yard walk to the beach. The only disturbing part is no pickups being allowed.

Room Tip: We stay in 504 and have never had noise problems

We had a wonderful stay at Sandpiper. We enjoyed the fact that it was a small complex. The complex and grounds were very well maintained. Perfectly groomed. The walkway to the beach was great, very clean, safe and sturdy. The pool was very nice too.
The beach area was never crowded which was great. We stayed in unit 303. It was the center unit, only one floor. It could use some new paint on the walls but was very spacious and comfortable. It also included 6 bikes and lots of beach equipment at no extra charge which is one reason we picked this over other condos. If you want lots of planned activities this isn't the condo complex for you but if you want to enjoy the uncrowded beaches and quietness with your family this is a great place. We have stayed at the Sundial before and that was nice but way too big of a comlpex. Sandpiper was perfect for us and we will probably always return here when we come back to Sanibel. Our daughters (15, 18, 21) really enjoyed it and said they liked the fact that it was more private with less people. When you have to pick a place to stay for your vacation over the internet you're always worried if you picked the right place. We were so happy with our choice and had a wonderful stay.

I am writing this review because there are no others that shed a positive light on this condo complex and in all honesty this is an excellent rental for couples. My husband and I traveled with our family and we appreciated the secluded ,quiet setting at Sandpiper Beach. (not to be confused with Sandpiper West or Sandpiper Inn) Sandpiper Beach is located on Olde Middle Gulf Drive beside the Signal Inn. The road and grounds are all detailed with lovely pavers and the grounds are superbly maintained, as is the large swimming pool that is warm and perfect for laps. The walk to the beach is via a sturdy white boardwalk and the beach is uncrowded and full of shells. The condo itself had 2 bed/bath and everything we needed, except beach chairs but we borrowed them.
I wouldn't recommend this condo for children, although there were children there, or handicapped because, there were no elevators, but the walkways and path to the beach were perfect. Finally, the views were spectacular! We usually eat out for dinner but instead enjoyed several candle light dinners from the comfortable lanai.

The Sandpiper Condo was nice, but the way that our family was treated by the owner/president of the board was appalling! Our family has been patronizing Sandpiper condos for 20+ years. For the past 3 years there have been issues w/ us bringing our family vehicle-which is a newer (2004)make/model, full size pickup truck. Apparently the policy at Sandpiper Condos is that no TRUCKS are allowed. We saw work trucks that were parked on the lot multiple days while we were there. But we were threatened that our only vehicle would be towed if we didn't move it. The only option we were given was to park it over a mile away and walk back to our room. They were not going to provide any kind of shuttle service to & from our vehicle. After looking online at some of the websites for Sandpiper Beach condos, only 3 out of 12 said NO TRUCKS ALLOWED. If they are going to enforce a rule like this, it needs to be clearly posted on ALL AVAILABLE websites.

We actually had 2 families in 2 different condo units this time at Sandpiper Beach and this is the last time that any of us will spend our time and $$ at this resort. No body should have to waste 2 days worth of wondering and worrying what to do about their only family vehicle when on vacation.
