Owner description: Sanibel Public Library is undergoing "Your Library Reimagined" project. Both the beauty and the quality of the Library structure are outstanding, but it is time to replace much of the infrastructure. HVAC, fire suppression, plumbing, lighting, technology, and flooring are being upgraded for greater efficiency; sustainable design features are included with the upgrade. All Library services (like the shell exhibit, for example) may not be available at all times during the 2017 remodel. Updates to the project will be posted on Facebook and Twitter. Please call the Library before your visit if you have questions. The Library provides access to high speed WiFi, as well as printing services—no Library card required. If you do not live in Lee County Florida, you may purchase a Visitor Card for $10, good for one year. Use the Visitor Card to check out books, movies, cooking kits, museum passes, music, magazines, and more—up to 30 items at one time. Also use your Visitor Card to download eBooks, magazines and audiobooks, and stream movies and music through the Library's eShelf collection. Sanibel Public Library hosts programs for kids of all ages throughout the year including storytimes, makerspace events, and special guests. Events are listed at the Library's online calendar.

Excellent library. The staff is very accommodating. You can even get some foreign novels and films there.

“Great place to visit on a rainy day”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

Perfect place to read a book, check out a movie, or even borrow a game for those rainy days while you're waiting for the sun to come back out.

“Love the library!”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

My husband and I frequent the Sanibel Library and include it as a "must see" spot on any tour of the Island we provide for visiting friends. The building itself is beautiful and is made all the better by the helpful and friendly people who work there. The plantings outside are labeled for those of us with a "need to know." There is a big children's area upstairs where programs are presented regularly. The screened-in outdoor reading porch provides rockers and a view of the Sanibel River. There are computers that are free to the public with staff to help those of us who are technologically challenged. (There is a tiny charge for printing.) There is always a table with a jigsaw puzzle being assembled that draws one over to put in a piece or two. Another table has a Scrabble game ready for play. One area contains many magazines and newspapers and comfortable chairs in which to read them. There is a huge collection of books, movies, puzzles and CD's to check out. A visiting author presents a program about once a month and tickets are free but must be obtained a month ahead of time on a first-come, first-served basis. Many community groups benefit from the meeting rooms available for meetings and programs. There is always an exhibit of paintings and seashell art. Sanibel is a small community with a huge treasure in its library facility.

“Best Library in the world”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

For such a small community it is amazing the selection of books, movies etc. They have computers available free for public use. They have a free authors series every month or so -only problem is that you have trouble getting a ticket (tickets are free) to hear the authors, perhaps they could move to a larger venue?
staff are extremely helpful

“Try the reading porch!”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

Sanibel Public Library is a treasure. There's a screened outside "reading porch" complete with rocking chairs. Grab a newspaper or magazine from the extensive collection, and escape! Heaven!
