We just booked one night in a Gulfview Studio to break the journey between the Keys and St Pete. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and directed to our room upstairs in one of the separate blocks. It was after dark, but even without the view it was a pleasant surprise after the rather limited accommodation in the "resort" we had come from. The large room had a well equipped kitchen at one end, a dining table, a sofa and two beds. Everything was clean and in good condition. The bathroom was a good size with his and hers basins. It was late and there was nowhere obvious to eat nearby, so we went to the resort restaurant. This is quite upmarket, and the most expensive meal we had in two weeks, but it was good. We slept well, comfortable beds and no noise. The next morning we could fully appreciate the resort. The blocks are spread out in a sandy area with trees and vegetation. Our room had a large balcony with furniture and fly screens, with a view towards the sea. Breakfast was fairly limited, but not the worst on the trip. If we had been there longer we would have bought some food as we were fully equipped for cooking and eating in the room. There is direct access to the beach, which disappears into the distance in both directions. There is plenty of sand above the high water mark, and lots of shells. If we had known how good it was, we would have planned a longer stay.

Room Tip: There was renovation work in progress, so if you want quiet during the day, ask for a room well away from it.

We stayed only one night, just a quick stop to Sanibel Island. The Island Inn was very nice just wish we had more time to stay. The location and view were priceless. The staff was so friendly. We will definitely be back when we can stay longer.

Me and a friend came down for a 2 night stay, our first time in Sanibel! We loved it at the Island Inn, stayed in the Kimball Lodge. The renovation that has been done is wonderful! As soon as we entered Kimball Lodge, it all smells brand new and is new. The decor is awesome, as well as our view. We loved the screened in lanai, with the gulf view. I would definetly go back and stay there again!!! The only complaint I have are the no see ums, think I'm allergic to them. Have bites up and down my arms, legs, and ankles; but we did sit outside and grilled our last night there and I was eaten alive by them! But would go back tomorrow if I had the chance!!!

Room Tip: Stayed in the Kimball Lodge, room 251. Second lanai in from the gulf with a sunset view, and short walk to the beach. Only gave avg mark on the fitness center, didn't see it let alone use it, don't even know if there is one. But got plenty of walking done on the beach.

Thank you for staying at the Island Inn and for leaving a review of your experience. I am so glad you enjoyed our location, accommodations and would return in the future.

Your comments concerning no see ums are certainly noted. To my knowledge, we are the only property on Sanibel Island that sprays/treats daily for no see ums. We will continue to listen to guest feedback and strive to better our guest’s overall experience.

Again, thank you for your patronage and comments. I hope your travels back to PA were safe and you are able to return to the Island Inn again soon! :-)

Thankful for the history of this hotel. We stayed in the Inn last week and had a wonderful time. The shelling right off the beach was amazing. The facility has only 1 draw back and that is the continental breakfast is OK. Only cold items, yogurt, pastries, tea, coffee, juice,no cereal, no toast. Nothing hot. The restaurant is NOT part of the hotel but complimentary. We made some suggestions at the front desk and were told the restaurant, Traditions, functions separately. Unfortunately, this was disappointing. It was one of the draws to the Inn. Still glad we went but not for the breakfast.

Room Tip: Kindall bldg. even numbers see sunrise and odd numbers see sunset.

Thank you for staying at the Island Inn and for taking the time to leave your feedback.

Our Complimentary light Continental break, a Complimentary amenity no other hotel on the island offers, consists of fresh baked pastries, fresh cut fruit, hardboiled eggs, yogurt selection, coffee, tea and fresh squeezed juices. A list of the contents of our Complimentary light Continental breakfast can be found in many of the management responses below and on every page of the Island Inn’s website.

Again, thank you for your stay and comments. I hope your travels home to PA were safe and you are able to visit Sanibel Island again soon! :-)

This was our first visit to Sanibel and chose Island Inn based on TA reviews. We stayed in room #226 in the Matthews Lodge. As others have written, the Inn has been around for quite some time and the outward appearance has a nostalgic charm while the room interior is a mix of old and new (new flooring, room safe, flat screen tv and modern bath). RM #226 is on the left most corner of the second floor with views of the gulf. We actually got a glimpse of some dolphins from our lanai. Be aware those nasty no-see-ums are small enough to get through the screening, so if you plan to spend time on the lanai, spray, spray, spray!

The Inn is really centrally located especially if you like to bike. We rented cruisers right from the Inn. The bike path is directly across the street and the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge is only 1.5 miles away. A very nice ride! The bike path takes you to the corner of Rabbit and San-Cap Rd (Doc Ford’s Bar and Grille on the corner) and Ding Darling is only a bit further down San-Cap Rd. After your ride I suggest a lunch at Doc Fords . Round trip, including the bike ride through the Wildlife Refuge is approx. 11 miles (the Refuge is 4 miles long but only one way, so you need to ride all the way back to the entrance via the bike on San-Cap Rd) . If you are adventurous you could bike in the opposite direction from the Inn and visit the LightHouse. Bike paths all the way! Roundtrip it was about 13 miles and took us 2.5 hours (round trip). With 1-speed cruisers we had a nice leisurely pace. I would also suggest no-see-um spray even on your bike trips. When pedaling you will be fine but as soon as you stop to look around, they got ya! Especially in any of the nature areas!!

And don’t forget beach walks and shelling. Again the Inn is mid-island so head out to the beach, turning left or right doesn’t matter, you will have plenty of beach to stroll and enjoy. You also have the benefit of sunrise and sunsets. Again, bug spray will be a must!!

Thank you for choosing the Island Inn for your Sanibel Island stay and for leaving a review of your experience. It sounds like the Inn's old Florida charm, low density and unparalleled beach proximity, combined with its modern accommodations and amenities were a perfect fit to your needs and expectations. I hope your travels home to NJ were safe and you are able to visit the Island Inn again soon! :-)
